so lets have one

BUT, lets keep it within the realm of players who are heavily praised on this forum

edit: I'll start (please don't shoot!) - Guthrie Govan - amazing technique and phrasing, but none of the actual compositions or jams of his that I've heard sounded particularly great to me.

Andy Timmons....does nothing for me.

You know, he's an amazing player with a great guitar tone. But, i bought one of his albums, listened to it a couple of times and it never left much of an impression on me. Maybe a few memorable songs but as far as sitting back and trying to listen to the whole cd i didn't think much of it.

A few guys i think are extremely overrated are Joe Perry and Sambora. Plain vanilla players IMHO.

Yeah, I really wanted to dig Timmons, and he's got the skills, but his compositions and note selections really did nothing for me. Kinda boring, IMHO. *shrug*

danyeo, have you heard the Timmons song called "I Have No Idea?" I think you'd really like that one. Really melodic stuff.

the only song i like by timmons is super 70s, and sometimes his tone seems too "toneful" like he tries to get his pickups to quack with every note starts to be really annoying after a while.

i also see what you are saying about guthrie, but i really like his song waves on his cd and his live performance at tone merchants of sevens, I also think is tone is incredibly bland :aww:

+1 on Guthrie. The guy is obviously skilled beyond belief, but I've never heard a single song/clip of his that ever made me want to listen twice.

Tom Morello

I'll go with that. He can make some cool effects noise but that's about it. Audioslave was absolutely terrible, IMO. Chris Cornell made a good move by ditching that crapfest.

the first Audioslave was killer. But that was Cornell fronting Rage, which I clearly have no problem with. The nex albums where Cornell seemed to have the majority of the songwiting input SUCKED.

As you can tell, I am not the biggest Cornell fan. He's an awesome singer and frontman. As a solo act... Nap waiting to happen.

Jimmy Page
Zack Wylde
Tom Morello

They do nothing for me on any level.

tom morello
john frusciante
srv (maybe not so much the technique but the songs make me want to change the station immediately)

+1 to both of those guys

Why talk shit on players? Doesn't make much sense to me.
