that should make you wonder why they don't say it about you. Maybe those notes aren't random...
is this random to you...

He plays wonderful..The only thing that irks me is when he bends a few cents up over the key, and throws in a fast vibrato. That`doesn`t float my boat. It obviously floats a lot of other people`s boats though :)

It doesn`t float any boats when Hammett does it (no comparison elsewhere, but on the a little out of tune fast vibrato.)

To the overrated topic:

Page (good writer, not so desireable player)
Hammett (I like what he writes, but not the way he plays it)
Clapton (good singer and writer, and a nice player, but not worthy the top ten list if you don`t count "stayer ability" into being "good")

All IMHO, of course. We`re discussing taste, and there is no "bad" or "good" taste. Just different ;)

I think most people are bashing Page because he's not a very "technical" player. To me, he just sounds "old school" and not really that sloppy. It's just the style to my ears. I mean sure, half the people in here can play everything he does, but he was one of the first to start doing that sound...man people didn't know what to think.

He's comparable to Hendrix in my opinion. Not better, but he's up there...

My point is, don't judge these guys on "technical" abilities alone. Sure every 13-year old kid on you-tube can play a couple Led Zep tunes and sound "similar" to Page, but there's something about Page that really defines that style, something about his sound. I don't know, maybe I'm alone in this? Just my opinion...:)

Well, all I was saying was that his Crossroads peformance IMO was absolutely terrible, which was a collection of absolutely random notes. The bassist chick blew him out of the water. I really can't comment on what he has done before this performance beacuse he really does nothing for me.

Page
Clapton
Beck

Why do so many people think beck is so great it doesnt even sound like he knows what key his songs are in? I tried watching some of his stuff from cross roads, its almost embarassing.

Yeah, it was funny. I watched him play and asked my dad if he always played like that. He said yes, I said I thought he sucked and my dad said that I don't understand his "artistry"

I could go up on stage and play 10,000 random notes with my fingers. No one says I'm amazing.

Life is not fair.

I knew I was going to read some stupid shit when I clicked on this thread.

HOLY SWEEPING GENERALISATION BATMAN!!!

I find hium uninspiring and pretty much all Led Zepplin a yawn fest. Therefore, he is overrated to me, not because he's not technical, but because he's boring.
