The Ampeg AMP-SB sucks serious tone with guitar amps. Stay away from it.

<snip>

If you use it on the un-loaded (tube amp) inputs, have you found it to be a tone-suck? What about it would cause this, the switching, circuit traces, or ?
I do not recall mine being a tone-suck, but I have not used it for 5-7 years or so. I can see why the tube-amp inputs would cause issues, with the added 20 ohm load run parallel to the signal, but on the non-loaded channels I'm seriously wondering what would cause the loss of signal integrity/strength.

Internal shot (from Gearslutz forum post):

Thanks.

Thanks.

I only tried the loaded tube inputs. I don't see why it would have much tone suck on the unloaded ones, but the unit loses its appeal to me if the load feature doesn't play nicely with guitar amps. Someone with 6 heads or cabs might feel differently.

i took out all the ceramic caps

tone suck gone.

i use it with standby on dont depend on the unit for a load.

risk is only when you let your dumb friends use the switcher.

Here is a very cool thread on this topic;

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/high-en ... chbay.html

I do a much cruder version of simply running speaker cables out of all of my heads to one central location. Then having speaker cables running out of my cabs to the same location, and using a heavy duty female to female connector to couple whatever amp / cabinet combination I want. No load obviously, so you have to make sure you have everything connected correctly before switching the standby's off. But with clear labeling and double checking, it shouldn't be a problem...

KHE and Ampete make versions for all kinds of situations. Love my KHE switcher.

I ordered a custom 20 amp, 10 cabinet switcher from Kruse amps. Should be done this week, but it was $1,650. haha

I am using a Metropoulos Head Master MK II that is fantastic for switching between 2 heads and 1 cabinet.
