Help deciding on a mesa Mark 5 or 7

Had a couple of Mesas when I was in Asia...namely MkV, 2 Lone Star, Transatlantic and Express.
The only ones I had any use for was the Line Stars but with the crap power there I got about an hour if use before they needed to go see the doctor.

None of them came remotely close to what I got out of my T-verb I used for 2 decades.

Now since I was ampless due to the fire e had a friend send me his V25 and Im completely over the moon with that.

So for your use case I'd stay with the V35.

I love the Mark V25 but to me it's more about just how many great tones there are in an amp small enough to just about fit in your pocket and weighs only 16 lbs. That amp is a marvel of engineering imo.

However, if I'm going for 100% tone with zero compromises and the amps the OP listed are my choices, I'm going Mark VII all day long, easy.

Another thing about the V that I hated was the shit Preset EQ Knobs next to the Graphic.. FUCK were those useless..

Absolutely. I get good mileage out of my Engl Ironball as a lunchbox amp, late at night noodling, quick riff tests etc, but the V:25 is such a more diverse, allround machine...the things the Engl does better is the placement of the loop, easier to set up and the sound of the (digital) reverb.

While waiting on the 7 to arrive a bought a V90, its much more for me tone and feel wise. Its different, i cant say one is better then the other.

The combo is heavy, but in the end ill seap the c90 and keep it in my living room, atleast when i dont need to go stereo.

The 7 should arrive tomorrow

straight of the bat

Clean, was ok, steel need to eq the channel better
Mk7 ill need more time with the eq but i think i can get this to work

Mk2c+ and mk4, face melting…..OMG

The amp is very quiet
The effects loops is quiet but my effects sounded lifeliss

The V when playing leads sings, especially with single notes
The 7 had a better note definition
(Could this be the case of fresh tubes)

This sums om my first 1,5 hours with the amp

The fx loop is an issue for me. Other then that the amp is great in every aspact.

Do you have any tips regarding the loop?
The effects get muffled sounding

I tried it with my mxr carbon copy.

This happened with my Caliber 50+ as well in the fx Loop. The TC Alter Ego V2 has no issue, but an Ibanez Analog mini delay also sounded extra muffled.
According to Mesa there's no fix for that... It seems like a level or impedance mismatch.

I think its indeed that

today ive tested the V90 against the 7.

Overall the 7 excels tonewise. All channels had more…..life.

I spend most time on clean, mark 2c+ and mark 4.

Clean: a fuller warmer sound.

mark 2c+ and mark 4: both where fuller sounding, more in your face, all in a good way. The 7 has more punch and i just cant stop playing this amp.

When the amps are not side by side i wouldbt be able to choose one over the other. In this case its clearly the 7!

Yesterday i sold the 35
The V90 was better

So for now im keeping both??
The V is near mint
I would only part with it for a head version with a road king cab.

Now the “testing fase” is over i can dtart playing avtual music again

Thanks for all your insight and help

Now, the Mark V made it to the living room. My wife prefers a head and cab, lucky me, so do i, so ill be on the look out for a trade in my area.

The Mark 7
The clean is soooo beautifull and has soul!
Ch.3 is just face malting raw power!!!

Couldnt be happier

The 7 also has a greater low end, punch and presence.

The V is also great, dont get me wrong, its just that i had the chance to have them side by side.
