I’m not talking about the jap mini hum that I also sent. I sent also a Jap full sized humbucker PAF copy. The mini hum is its own unique flavor from other stuff that I also love. If you liked the actual Jap PAF then you may also really like the Tone Specific Bloombucker. The Virtuoso set I sent is a different flavor that wouldn’t warrant crossing a PAF off the list. Jeff loved the Bloombucker, but didn’t like the Virtuosos eitherYeah the Jap mini hum was very good...and in no way resembled what I heard from that TS pickup. Not even close actually. Both into the same guitar also.
I'm sure the TS is a great pup for what it is; but that 'it' is not for me.
The virtuosos have IME a different type of mid hump thing than the PAF’s. Both are mid humpy in a little different ways. It’s a strange pickup in some ways that doesn’t get along in a lot of guitars, but can be great in the right one like my ash Marchione, but either way generally prefer in most guitars the Bloombucker or Twang Tron set that is like his take on the old Gretsch pickups (killer). I’m not sure how much PAF’s are your thing in either case, but you may like the vintage Tim Shaw ones. In general I find them a little sharper and less midrange-y than my real ‘50’s Gibson PAF’s, but otherwise close. The real ‘50’s PAF’s are still also a bit more 3D/nuanced, special not connection
I have this freak Shaw PAF set where the bridge pu is 16k, neck 9k and it’s like that bluesy raunchy PAF flavor on steroids
