How did you like the sound of the Herbert on the 1960B? I'm just asking, because I may be in for the Herbert and have the same cab. Unfortunately I don't have the money for another cab right now, so I just want to know if it would be quite ok for some time (very subjective of course) or if it's a total 'no-go'. A Framus Dragon 4x12 could be a nice and not-so-pricey alternative, does anyone have experiences with that cab on Herbie/VH4?

Oh and hello everyone by the way :)

Hey, nochn Nürnberger, servus ;)

I only played a 1960B on a show and I was not that happy with it, as I prefer the V30 midrange with the Herbert and the GT12-75 sounded a bit too scooped for me. However this is just taste and a lot of people prefer other speakers or mixed setups.
Also the show with the 1960 was before I had my Herbert tweaked a bit by Peter and I was not 100% happy even with V30s.
That being said, you're welcome to bring your cab to our bandroom and have a testdrive with my Herbert. I'll pick up my Diezel FL V30 cab tomorrow so you could even compare it to the imho perfect cab for the mighty Herb. Just shoot me a PM if interested :D

Uh, no, waaay too much effort, transporting cabs around and stuff........bullshit, are you kidding me? Of course I'll visit you with my cab :D

I'll pm you right away.

I would agree with the below assessment. The V30s mid range is much nicer and more apparent, however I would not say it is not usable just not as usable for me. I think you will be fine with the cabinet, you may want to experiment with speakers as a starting point if you do not want to buy another cabinet....

Good luck either way.

Thx ttosh. Me and xmartx will probably meet next week for a little testdrive with his Herbie on my 1960B and his new Diezel 4x12, this will be fun :)

I just hope for a quite decent tone for me, otherwise it would piss me off big time to have such a great amp, but a cabinet that ruins it all. Don't get me wrong, in case I will get my own Herbert, I will upgrade to another cab, I just can't afford both at the same time.

I'm also looking into Earforce-Amps (please don't stone me now :scared: ). Those are also very sweet amps handcrafted in Germany and are said to sound already quite decent on such a cab as mine. They even use one as a reference cabinet (besides their own cab, which is loaded with Eminence speakers).

I'm pretty sure you will be fine, after all the 1960 is one of the most played cabs and it's not a cheap Behringer or Peavey cab that both sounded really bad with the Herbert. You'll probably have to put in some more mids then with V30s but thats what the Eq is for ;)

I'm planning anyway to get you next week drunk enough until you prefer the sound of my 1960 and will trade it for your Diezel cab, but I guess that will fail, since you will pass out before being drunk enough for such a decision

Yes, I stumbled about that but thought it would be too complicated to do it on my own, but I found out that it's not, since no brazing/soldering is necessary :)

I decided to replace two of the speakers with Eminence Governors and have an X-Pattern with the remaining G12T75s.

What the hell, I bought the cab used in 1999 and I'm pretty sure it will be an upgrade anyway, no matter whether for the future Herbie/VH4 or to my existing head (1999 Marshall JCM 2000 DSL100 'Orange Crunch') and the speakers cost me a total of 150 Euros. From what I picked up in some forums, it's a quite nice combination.

The Governor is some sort of V30 soundwise, in case anyone wonders.
