Vai used a rack mounted SLO during the Sex and Religion time period. He also used them pretty exclusively during the Whitesnake SOTT tour 89-90.

Saw him on that tour at l'Elysée-Montmartre in Paris many many moons ago. Amazing tone ! Didn't notice the Soldano at the time but I clearly remember the guitar tone and two huge racks on the side of the stage. Whole show was great. Devin Townshend was young and on fire ! They did a long 5 minutes super-fast harmonized solo together. Perfectly synchronized at warp speed ! Both can play !
