Thanks everyone. My Einstein has came stock with EL34s. I started off with a flat EQ, everything at 12:00, as is the case with most amps (except Mesa where you start off at 9:00). The sound was pretty bassy so I backed off the bass and increased the mids. That seemed to help but then it was missing something, so I started playing with the depth control.
After recording a few times I realized that I have to back off the treble and use the presence. In some ways, the Einstein seems to be similar to my
Marshall and Soldano amps in that way.
I still haven't yet found that happy spot yet, but I'll give your settings a try and see if it helps. I pretty much already came to terms with the fact that I'm not going to get a vintage tone out of this amp. It's totally modern, but that's ok because my original stuff isn't vintage sounding anyway.
So far I've gotten somewhat decent resuts with the following settings for channel 1, modes 1,2,3:
Bass 10:00
Mids 12:00
Treb 10:00
Pres 1:00
Depth 10:00
I don't use a lot of gain. Most of the time I keep the gain around 12:00-1:00 depending on if I'm using single coils or humbuckers.
I have EJ strats, Gibson Les Paul Std., and a Jackson Soloist. I have a little bit of a hard time with my Les Paul because it has so much low end, also with my Jackson because I put Dimarzio 36th PAFs in it. The Dimarzios have a thick midrange and low midrange and the highs can get a little harsh, so I have to dial in more depth and less treble with them.
That's pretty much it. Oh, and I also like to play instrumental rock type stuff like Yngwie, Satch, etc... I love hardcore shit like Lamb Of God, In Flames, Himsa, etc... but I don't play much of it. I bought this amp because I thought I would start playing more metal, however, I don't think that will actually happen. Who knows.
