Hello fellow Diezel users,

been lurking here for a while and finally took the time register now. I have a 2006 Herbert that I'm mostly happy with  but atm I'm playing through a VHT Fat Bottom cab that doesn't really suit the Herbie.
So I started saving some money and things are looking good that I'll be able to afford a new Diezel cab around Xmas. I'm just not sure which speakers to choose. As I only have a 2h drive to Dillingen I will hopefully be able to pay a visit to Peter S. and try all the cabs but it would be cool to get some other user opinions before.
Has anyone here tried both cabs with the Herbert and can share some experiences? The amp and cab will be used for band practice and shows most of the time and I mostly play high gain modern rock/metal. Usually I'm either on channel 2+ with gain ~12.30 or channel 3 with gain around 10.30.

Thanks,
Martin

I have 2 of these and tried both speaker combos...preferred the G12K100 in the new cabs. V30 just seemed a tad spikey to me...but thats my ears. G12K100s are smooth & very balanced. I would imagine you are talking about the Front Loaded cabs. THats what i have. If you are talking Rear Loaded...i have heard the Hemp Cones are the cats ass!! Good luck. Any which way you will be happy!! :D

Hey Pauly, awesome you have just the setup to answer my questions (and the music you're making with it is not too bad either :D )
So far the K100 seem to be just what I'm looking for. What are your experiences in terms of cutting through the mix especially when there is another really midheavy amp in the band?
I initially bought the VHT cab for my Framus Cobra that sounds really great with it and then I got the Herbie. While it doesn't sound that bad through the VHT I have serious problems making myself heard against the Engl Blackmore of my bandmate. I gotta run the Highs and Presence at 3 o'clock to be heard but then it sounds a bit shrill. I already tried a V30 cab and it was a lot better but I don't really like the spikey mids of the V30s and the Cobra doesn't sound good through them at all. And yes, I'm focussing on a frontloaded cab.

Thanks man!! All the new tracks were done with the new FL G12K100 cabs. Both the Herbert & the VH4. I have never had a problem cutting thru the mix with the Herbert. and i dont run that much treble & presence either to cut. Seriously, try the new cab out & your problems will disappear. It cuts thru the mix like a hot knife thru butter. Best of luck. if you need any more info feel free. Plus check old posts...tons n tons n tons of info on here @ your fingertips!!

hey pauly

do your speakers sound that good live too?

I play rock/hard rock/ classic metal styles. IMHO, the best cabs I've heard with the Herbert is the Diezel 4x12" FL G12K100 that I have now, and also an Orange 4x12" V30 sounded really really good with it. I speculate that this cab sounds great with Herbie partly because of 16 ohm wiring pushes the Herbie OT more which must be a good thing! My ENGL V30 didn't sound GREAT with the Herbert at all, even though it is a very good cabinet in itself. It has more of a vintage sound. (probably why ENGL named it the 4x12" Vintage   )
For the ENGL Blackmore that I owned, I preferred the ENGL V60 cab much to the ENGL V30 cab because the Blackmore has so much mids it doesn't need V30 mids too!

Anyway, you cannot go wrong with the new G12K100 cab. I agree with what Pauly said, it has a lot of punch and removes the "spike" of the V30.

I think they sound better live IMO cuz i can open up the power section a bit more. I like to "feel" the amp..so my master is somewhere around noon...which shoud kill most small animals in the area!! = ) :D

The louder the better with the cabs....both front and rear loaded IMO.

Thanks everyone, so far the K100 sounds like the way to go even though I usually can't open up the poweramp that much. Live and in the bandroom my master is somewhere around 10-11 and the channel between 9-10.
No I just gotta get some money together, sell the VHT cab and see if I can get an appointment with Mr. Stapfer to check out the cabs.

You got that right  I really have a hard time against the Blackmore with V30s. Hopefully the K100s still produce enough mids to keep up with the Blacky.

The Front Loaded G12K100 sounds great at any volume! That cab is pure heaven.

How about some Hempcone RL feedback?
All these guys on here with the FL GK100's. Something tells me that the Hempcones may be better/warmer/thicker,..etc. I REALLY wanna hear some stuff about what you all think. Talked to Terry last week and he had a lot of good stuff to say about them.

Well, I shared much with you about them. As I said, they are wonderful. Very tight, crisp and modern sounding with all the vintage mojo and vibe you know and love at the same time. They are very warm and creamy on the lead playing and at the same time hold together astonishingly well and are very focused. On the alternate picking, chug stuff they are very responsive and immediate without getting muddy or boomy while still maintaining that sweet vintage vibe and feel along with immense clarity. Imagine wearing a pair of boots all your life that have become very familiar and combining that with the most modern designed boot all in one. You look down and see brand new but you feel the comfort and familiarity of old. That is a lot like what the rear loaded cab sounds and feels like. You get that sense of roundness and a feeling of just enough sag while at the same time immense clarity, harmonic overtones and tightness you have longed for but couldn't find until now. ;)

no joke

I turned herbie's master to about 4 o'clock and my organs hurt... all of them.

Welcome Home Martin! ;)
Get the RL with Hempcones. After that your mate can pack his bags!
Somtimes i wonder if i better bought the RL Hempcone instead of the FL V30. I don´t know. Peter S. told me i can try the two cabs, but i said there´s no need to. :aww:
I tried them in Frankfurt at the Musikmesse, but not in the bandsituation.

But i thinkl the FL V30 is not a bad cab! :D

Du ich könnte auch nächsten Samstag. Allerdings erst abends?! Wie wärs?

Hi Bato, yea finally managed to register on here.
Hm, I didn't really consider the Hempcones, dunno why but I somehow thought they were better suited for like lower gain stuff. Anyways, thats why I wanna go to Dillingen or Bad Steben if possible and try all cabs with my amp and guitar. If I manage to get an appointment with one of the Peters you're welcome to join me of course.
Yea, your FLV30 sounded really great with your Herbie, but as the Cobra hates the V30 Midhump I most likely won't get another V30 cab unless I'm completely dissappointed with the K100 and now the Hempcones.

Danke für das Angebot, aber ich bin noch bis 25. in the UK. Danach sehr gerne und da kann ich mich auch voll nach dir richten, Keine Gigs und Auslandsaufenthalte mehr ;)

You will not be unhappy with either one....I can promise you this. They are both superb!

And I believe you, but unless they sound the same I still gotta find out which one is the best for me ;)
As you have probably tried it, how would you compare the Hemp Cones to the V30 and K100 in combination with the Herbert and modern high gain sounds?
Also what speakers are in the hempcones cab. Is it the Eminence or Tonetubby Speaker or something custom?

I heard this cabinet over the summer played by a few pro musicians and IMO it blew away the other Diezel cabinets. I was truly impressed. Peter Stapfler and I talked about them for a while and he said that even he couldnt believe how great they sounded. He also said that rearloading them made a big difference.

The few pro musicians demoing the cabs at the time all picked the Hempcone as their favorite, they had a setup to A/B cabinets.
