Herbert hissing on all channels

Hi, I'm trying to figure out what's going on here....

I have tried 12 different preamp tubes and so far I can't get rid of the hissing problem or I haven't been able to isolate it. I just bought 7 new tung-sol 12ax7's and that didn't help. I have tried other preamp tubes too. I have the amp volume at 9PM on all channels. On channel 2 and 3 as a raise the gain the hissing gets really loud at the same volumes.

I think its the preamp tubes but I'm not sure. I'm wondering what i can try next maybe new cables? I'm at a loss. To me the hissing is extreme but I'm not sure I'm a noob so who knows. Any suggestions would be great, I guess I can buy new preamp tubes and see if It helps but who knows.

Thanks for your time.

Not trying to be a smart-ass, but maybe it's feedback? Maybe from not so well isolated cables or you're too close to the amp? Maybe even your electrical outlets...

I know.. I stand about 7-10 feet away and it doesn't help. I guess I can try quality cables and see how that goes. How can I fix the outlets? Try a Power converter?

It will be hard to post a clip because I don't have anything to record with at the moment.

Basically It sounds like a loud ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff or static type of a noise and as I increase the gain the sound gets louder and louder.

Please turn down the gain to zero.
If the noise disappears replace V1.

Thanks Peter, I will try that. I did try 3-4 different tubes in V1 and it didnt go away. I will try a few more.

I had a similar thing with my Herbert a while ago, it was V3.
I'd like to see a video or hear a clip though, it's difficult to fully understand what's happening from your description.

Yeah, maybe I can get a vid and post it on youtube or something. I will work on that.. if you make this sound FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF and then as you increase or decrease the gain it will get louder as you increase the gain on chan 2 and 3 the most and you hear a slight hum on channel 1.

My guess is V1 preamp tube.

yeah that seems to be the guess. I did try multiple tubes in V1 last night but still didnt help... Then i just started switching out 1-3 and still didnt make any diff...

I will try again and see if I can get a Vid before hand.

Try to incorporate the "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" technique into a ultra-revolutionary new genre. You might be on the brink of something really BIG!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I'm almost absolutely certain that the TS-12AX7s that you got from Doug are fine. Did you try calling Doug to explain the problem to him? Also, did you try all the things that I had suggested the other day? Also, you might want to mention to Doug that you found one of the new TS-12AX7 preamps tubes to be somewhat large in circumference and you had to finesse it in the preamp socket- NOOB! ;)

Well I don't have new cables (yet). No computers are in the room and no lights except a normal bulb. Check out the vid, you say your Herbert is virtually silent and mine isn't so who knows. No I didn't call Doug (yet). Not sure he can help me. Yeah the tung-sol preamp tubes are really tight fitting into the preamp hole. The seem to hit the lip where the little screws hold down that little bracket that holds the caps on.

Does the hum persist with different guitars? Check the ground in your guitar if so it would be an easy fix. Just a suggestion.

Good luck!

1. The V1 is microphonic
2. It can be that the hum trimmer inside the amp is broken
3. The cable or the guitar is not grounded in the right way

If the problem don´t will be fixed by Yourself, please contact
Terry at Diezel US first.

Thanks,

Peter
