Alright you goddamn, heartless, relentless, manipulative, in-my-face, overtly gregarious, loud mouthed, no-good-for-nuthin, BASTARD Herbert owners....!!!! :bleh:

I'm buying one. I can't believe this. I went to bed last night, thought about it for a second, and woke up this morning wanting to buy one. Now I'm in the midst thereof. WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE!!!!! I WAS TOTALLY HAPPY WITH MY VH4S!!!! WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY LOGIC AND RATIONALE!?!?!?! Bastards!! And DON'T THINK I DON'T SEE YOU LAUGHING RIGHT NOW PAULY!!! AND...AND MAILMAN!!!! And all you other rat bastard Herbert touting BASTARDS!!!!!

So, a NIB 2009 Herbert ought to be loaded with what stock power valves and pre-amps? Any info would be greatly appreciated from the very same group of people I just lambasted in the aforementioned paragraph. Good news, the medication JUST kicked in and I feel much better.

Thank you, you very kind and understanding rat bastards...

Well I opted for the EL34's in the XTC, so that should be that - personally, I kinda dig the rawness of the 6550's in my V - which I'm playing right this moment and am still wondering why on earth I'd wanna buy a Herbert - this thing rips!! ANYWAY - I'd like to experiment with tubes, if I do go with the Herb, I'd want something kind of exotic in there - not every day. I'm a huge fan of EL34's but like I said, why have two amps loaded with the same? I'll look around a bit. The one I'll be buying is a new '09 as there's no difference in the voicing to the '10 to the best of my knowledge, and I too, would prefer external bias points.

ANYWAY - thanks for the support. I'm going through a tough time man. My head, my heart....sigh :aww: I love my V and would never betray her.

Come on you guys, I just got my VH4 (used) a week ago and totally love it and all I get here is mouth watering about the Herbster, first Mailman and now even you, I should stop visting here :D

Anyway, I have the opportunity to meet up with xmartx soon, who has the Herbert and then I'll see/hear what the fuss is all about :)

Yo Bronz, got lost on in all the chitter-chatter and sorry man, just wanted to say THANK YOU for clarifying. Awesome info. Interesting trend I've noticed with the 2010 models that Herr Diezel is choosing to go with Ruby's as opposed to the direct-from-manufacturer route. I mean, Ruby's are, for the most part, re-brands. So I'm kinda bewildered to see some other chumps' take on tubes in our beloved Diezels. I get it if they're SED or Tung Sol, Genalex or the like, but Ruby's???? Yo Pauly - your thoughts on this??

I mean - hands down, my fave power tubes are Winged C SED 6550' and EL34's with Tung Sol a close second in the EL34 department.

Peace, and again Bronz - thanks!

Well, I've been bashing the snot outta my VH4S and G12K100 loaded cabs tonight and Gentlemen - there is absolutely NOTHING that could make me say NO to this amp. The ONLY way the Herb's coming into MY life, thank you very much, is next to my VH4S... It ain't gonna trump it. No dice.

At least I can't imagine it trumping my beloved V.

In Earnest,
V.

I have tried a mess of power tubes in both my Diezels. And again this is all Personal Preference....so here we go.

I have tried the following (not in any particular order)

Ruby- (EL34, 6L6 & 6550) - always sounded great IMO. Great reliability. Had one failure over 5 years.. and they were over a year old & used hard. Just grabbed some KT88s for another amp project...kinda itching to try in the Diezels.

SED Winged C (6550,EL34 & 6L6) My fav of the batch. Great sounding. Very musical. Great tones across the spectrum. Very balanced to my ears. Reliable as HELL. Never failed on me. Always felt super comfy playing when using them.

Tung Sol (EL34) - Not a fan of TS. I know alot of peeps dig em...just think they sound too hi fi & stiff. Kinda sucked the life out of the amp.

JJ (EL34 & KT77) - Didnt like the 34s in my VH4. Sounded likda thin & noisy. Preferred the Ruby & SED. LOVE the KT77s. People dislike but in a pinch i put them in my VH4 and the amp came to life. I have used them in other settings & they really work well.

hope that helps ya a bit. Remember...just my opinion. So put the guns down boys

Pauly, it´s OT but got You email from Peter Stapfer ?

I pulled the TAD preamps and replaced them with balanced Rubys. I also went with JJ KT88's, and the amp sounds much better.
