It keeps switching itself to channel 1. It will hold Channel 1 and 3 fine.
It also switches off channel 2, back to 1 when I insert a guitar cable into the input.
Most times it will hold channel 2 for an hour and other times it wont stay
immediately hitting the switch. I am using no effects or foot switch, just manually switching.

Any idea's.

The Mid Cut, Loop, Ch. 1, 3 and mute all hold fine. It just defaults to Ch. 1 when switching to 2.

When I had a midi problem with my ENGL SE it was similar in that it only had a problem with one single function. Everything else worked like it was supposed to, but one feature would not switch.

I am guessing it may be a bad relay. But of course I am very limited in my knowledge of how these things operate.
Hopefully someone who knows a bit more will chime in soon.

Good luck man.

What does it act like manually? Just go with a cable into the amp from the guitar... Manually switch starting at Channel 1 and move through the Channels and the +/- and see if it continues to happen. Remove all stomp switches and MIDI interfaces. Only cable going to the Herbert should be power, speaker and guitar.

Report back, lemme know.

No effects or Midi devices are used, just guitar-cable-amp.

Is it a component issue ?

Most likely a MIDI Controller Chip issue. Peter will probably send you a new one. It's a drop-in replacement on the VH4 (no soldering required), so I assume it's the same on the Herbert.

Do the Herbert and VH4 share the same controller chip ? If so, I have a spare.

Yes, You can try that but please check first the channel switch
with an ohm meter. It should have no constant short.

Still the same. It switches from 2 to 1 when pulling the guitar cable out.

Did You replace the controller and check the switch ?

Yes, switches are 2.3M off and the new controller chip behaved the same, but faster.
With the new chip it almost immediately went back to CH. 1. Everything else on CH. 1 and 3
works fine including the loop, mute, mid cut and V2. If you hold the switch down for channel
2, it works fine.

The amps a March 2009 Herbert.

Replied.

Peter,

You can delete this thread so it does not cause any worries to Herbert owners.
