Thanks Sean, but I'm not working for Metallica anymore. :)

It used to be just the JC and some FX, not sure if he uses the Pod - I didn't see one in his racks last time I had a chance to look at them - which was in 07...so for what it's worth... :)

Scott did you ever see or know what he added to his chorusy tone? A regular JC-120 head or combo I ever played never sounded as chorusy as his chorus tone. Thanks

I'm not sure Sean to be quite honest...never had that much time "hanging around" the rigs...

I know, and this is info from at least two years back, that they used to tour (on bigger tours) with a blue team and a red team, so they could keep up with the schedule. Could be that his rigs varied a bit, sometimes JC and the next stop maybe something different...but I don't think so tbh...I seem to recall seeing the same rigs at every show...the racks are heavily customized with stickers and stuff...kinda hard to duplicate. :D

I may be able to find out for sure, but it may take some time...

hey Sean, don't you think that chorus would probably be one of those big-ass line6 pedals? the ones in the strong colors. Not sure what they call'em :D here's a suspect: http://line6.com/mm4/

You're right, it won't.

And James Hetfield's chorusy clean tone will never sound as chorusy as MY chorusy clean tone! muahahaha! \:D/
Electric Mistress FTW!

I find that Delay Time plays a big role in how gooey a chorus sound will be. Also adding a static pitch shift, known as non-cyclical chorusing, has an effect on it too.
It's possible that James was/is running an extra chorus effect pedal or unit that has a Delay Time control, or maybe a Boss PS5 which is a pitch-shifter with a Detune mode.

Another thing too- HOW you connect even a standard Boss Super Chorus pedal to a Roland Jazz Chorus 120, will affect how chorusy it is. What I often do is run both inputs of my Jazz Chorus amp, with one channel set dark and the other channel set relatively bright. I'll switch the chorus on, and send a dry signal to Channel 2 (with the chorus) and an externally chorused signal to Channel 1. Or you could do it with a doubled-up chorus by running a chorused signal into Channel 2, with or without running into Channel 1 simultaneously. Then there's also the effects loop where you could do the same thing, and also switch it from series to parallel for even more twists and turns. AND....how the speakers are mic'ed up too.......

Hetfield sucks - he's lame! As do all the douche nozzles in fagtallica. Hetfield needs to go back to his local guitar store and get some lessons and learn more than three chords.

Like him or not, he's obviously had more success playing the guitar than you have, so he must be doing something right. ;)
