High gain amp comparison

I only got to try it briefly but I absolutely loved it! I'm getting another one in a while so I will be able to spend more time with it and compare it to my other ENGLs. I'll say this: so far it's the one ENGL that simply sounds amazing on all channels and a lot of the switches and options work really well too. It's hard to make it sound bad! Amazing amp!

OK, I watched them out of order so the first one below is PART 2. LOL

The best in the first video were ENGL Powerball II and Marshall JVM410H.
The best in the second video were the ENGL Fireball 100 and the Marshall DLS100HR.

I guess I have a type. :D

The Victory gets a thumbs down from me. I didn't like it at all.

My takeaway was that the Engls all sounded good and the Marshalls are probably the most bang for the buck in these two lineups. I regret getting rid of my JVM410. Maybe I should pickup a DSL100HR and try it out? :unsure:

The DSL100HR is fun! Very differently voiced than the JVM though, more loose, fat and somewhat scooper. I dig them though!
 
Yeah Im a little surprised my fav in these clips might be the Poweball 2 ….. I hated the Powerball 1 I had back in the day , it was super compressed and got totally lost in a mix. The PB2 seems to be much better. Question to GuitarJon Is that your favorite out of the ENGLs you have now? Ive owned the Fireball 2 which I liked way more than the PB1. The Fireball also sounded good here but PB might have the edge.
 
BTW, kudos to Jon for doing this shootout. This was an opportunity to hear some amps that I may never come into contact with. The back to back shootout comparison at the end was great. My favorite part.

When you do get the Engl SEFE, can you please do a comparison with it against your powerball II? Huge price differences but I really enjoyed what the powerball 2 is capable of

I don't like picking favorites and I like all of them for different reasons. The Powerball is absolutely killer though, love that thing! My future SE FE might become my favorite though since it's so amazing!

Hi Jon. I like your demo of the ASP DSP Laney Lionheart. (Actually, I like all of your demos!) Any chance you could review the Peavey JSX head or 2x12 combo someday? The demos I've head make me want one.
