I bought a 6505 mini a few days ago. If you haven't played one yet, then do yourself a favor. Of course, playing it in the store got me interested in buying one, but when I got it home and plugged it into my own cab, holy hell! This is an impressive amp. What a great sound. It doesn't sound like a mini. USUALLY, EL84s don't do it for me, but the 6505 somehow puts it all together the right way.

I've owned a few minis, including the Mini Rect and Mark V 25. I couldn't even really gel with the Mini Rect because I've owned a 50w & 100w rectifier before and it just made me want one of those. The Mark V25 didn't 'feel' like it had enough distortion even though it had plenty. The 6505m is extraordinary when you consider that I walked out with one in the factory box for $450.

The clean channel is absolutely fantastic. It may be the second greatest surprise this amp offers to most people checking it out for the first time. It has a surprising amount of headroom, and it goes into breakup. It's pretty versatile. I can't say that what sounds good for a metal tone translates to a good clean tone. That may be one of the only limitations of this amp, but then again, I've only had it for a few days.

Oh my God man does this thing get brutal! The EQ is extremely sensitive to even slight adjustments. This is no toy. I mean, this thing is on the level of real good professional gear in my opinion. I don't have any need for the power scaling because I've kept it on full power since I got it and never once felt the need for a power reduction. I could see it benefiting the clean channel, but I don't care to get into that right now.

It has been great with a variety of speakers. I've tried the emulated XLR output and it's kind of dark and muffled, but then again, I suck at recording and I'm sure it's something I didn't dial in. However, even though I suck at recording, it was pretty easy to get a good metal sound mic'ed.

Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister is another great little amp, but it won't give up the brootz like the 6505m. Same retail price. It is equally good, but kind of more rock and blues. The 6505m is able to do pretty good blues and cleans despite it's brutal nature, but like I said before, I haven't been able to find a good balance between the two channels for that kind of thing. You kind of have to dial it in for one genre. If you want to do metal, it will easily give up metal distortion and metal cleans. If you want EVH, it will give that up easily likewise, but you can't really switch between Metallica and Radar Love.

It can actually do some very nice clean tones, and the clean channel has a real nice feel too. It also comes with a digital studio reverb which is actually quite good. I've had it sitting next to my Diezel Paul which also has a digital reverb and I must say that the 6505m is quite impressive. I must say though that I haven't touched the bright switch, so that may be the key to the balance between clean and distortion. This amp leaves much to be explored.

I know there are many great mini heads out there these days, but this one hits home with me. Also, I'm tired of trying to get rock amps to do metal. I think I'm going to rethink my amp situation and buy amps made for metal. Check out this video, particularly the riffing at the beginning of the video. It's jaw-dropping what the 6505m can do. The next couple of videos are pretty good too I think.

Yes, I also own one and feel the same way.....Such a killer little head for sure

I almost snagged one the other day. Guy local had one for $225 with a shitty crate 4x12 for free. I emailed and it had been sold.

Mine will be here in 2 days, can't wait ..I just got a mojotone Slammins 1x12 to go with it .

I don't know how the Mojotone Speakers are, but so far I've tried it with a variety of speakers including a V30, Celestion Gold, Weber Silver Bell, and G12H30. It loves all kinds of speakers. The EQ is so responsive that you can do extreme EQ'ing, and the sensitivity of the EQ makes it very easy to adjust to different speakers. I'm not trying to intensify your delivery anticipation anxiety, but you're going to love this amp.

I got one for late night practice. I really dig it.

Agreed on all points. These are insanely awesome amps on their base merits and taking into account the form factor, home studio features, and the prices they go for, I'd even say they they are mind blowing. Was completely taken aback by its versatility.

Like the OP, I think I am better suited by getting a great metal amp that can do rock and blues with authority rather than trying to do the converse.

Anyway loads of fun for a small amp.

Congrats on the amp! Those little things sound great! That's me in the video. That was the crunch channel boosted with a TS9 if you were digging the tone. On the pedal it was the typical gain off, level cranked setup.

Tried one out and was amazed

Walked out with a 5150 II in the GC used section instead

Great amps

Awesome man. That's some of the best metal riffing I've heard on youtube. You have it slightly muffled, but in a very cool way. When I use the emulated out., it get that kind of muffling but too much to where it sounds much darker than through speakers or a headphone. Did you mic that or use the XLR out? If you didn't mic it, then how did you get rid of the muffled thing?

Do what the guy did in the last vid, and use the "send." His clips sound solid. I don't care for the emulated out clips I've heard.

When we shot that clip we were doing videos at a local recording studio. It was a blend of the emulated out and a Shure KSM313. The 313 wouldn't have been my prefered choice for high gain guitars, but that's what they went with. They also mic'd the far outside edge of the speaker for some reason, so things were kind of dark and congested.

Here's a clip comparing the tones blended, then separated.

Damn that does sound great. May have to give those a bigger look.

I bought the 6505 mini and ending up selling it. I liked the features but felt the tone lacked balls and was a bit thin sounding, especially as compared to my EVH 5150 LBX. As far as your comments regarding the Mesa Mini Recto and Mark 5 25 watt, I have to disagree there as well. The mini Mark sounds just like it's big brothers to me. Of course it doesn't have quite as much low end as the larger amps due to tubes and the size of the transformers, but you can easily make up for it with the graphic Eq and your cab selection. I have the Rectoverb 25 as well. Again, sounds like a Recto to me. I actually run a Mesa 5 band eq in the loop of this one and it really livens it up. My comments are based on the fact that I have owned several larger Rectos previously as well as a few Mark IV's, a Mark II C+ and a Triaxis.

The 6505 mini "lacks balls" and "thin sounding" isn't going to be part of the vast majority of people who've used it. I never said the Mark V5 or Mini Rect didn't sound like their larger counterparts. I said the Mini Rect just made me want to go back to the 100w rectifier. That has a lot to do with the EL84 tubes, and I mentioned not being a big fan of EL84s too. As for thar Mark V25, it's subjective, but I know I'm not the only one whose made similar comments about the feel.

As you stated, tone is subjective. Carry on!

I use a new silver mxr eq in the loop and an airis savage drive in front with mine for tons more flexibility with brutal tones!
But I've never felt it sounds thin or lacking balls, I never have the lead gain past 11:00, boosted or not.
This is Prob the best metal mini amp I've had the pleasure of playing. Great for my application, which is, I needed an amp when I can't crank up my big boys

Ah, I see you've got a Herbert and a Butterslax... nice. One thing about the mini is that after playing it for a couple of days, I go back to my Helios and Paul and realize that the 6505 mini lets me get away with a lot. My Bogner and Diezel are much more unforgiving on technique. It's not a complaint though because the 6505m sure beats practicing on a modeler or solid state.

yeah I agree these things are awesome! Been digging mine for several months now
