Yep. Only had a few deals selling and buying on the forum. Tone Merchants and Rob treated me right. As long as the gear does what is supposed to, the voicing and feel, etc, is all subjective and I don't bitch about that. Lack of replies to inquiries is the part I will file away as bad service and not do business with. I don't beat a dead horse or post a rant post to rag on somebody.

I have been lucky enough to get a few PM's in the past to advise me on gear/manufacturers that I had posted about wanting to to business with. This forum seems to have a pretty good number of self governing members that understand tact.

Guitar Center is the only place I do business with where I know service and product knowledge may be sketchy. Ok, it will definitely be sketchy...

Wow, the poll results are very 50/50.

There's no reason to lie about a product. I'm going to start by spilling the beans about a few companies here.

Mike Fortin: Your products are worth waiting for, and worth paying for. I never thought I would feel alright after dropping over 3k on an amplifier, and you proved me very wrong. Your knowledge and attitude will take you places for sure.

Dave from Baron Custom amps: Your products are fantastic and affordable, and your customer service is in the top three I have ever gotten in my life from any business or builder. I'm really glad your business has taken off, because you have the ears and knowledge that provide a great foundation for your craft.

JerryP: I have had plenty of great experiences with you both buying and selling gear, and I wish you were more available to talk so we could have gotten a mod project on the way.

Dave from Mills Acoustics: You were very polite, responsive, thorough, and supportive with the purchase and troubleshooting of my cabinet. I wish it recorded as well as my other cabinets, otherwise I would still own it.

Larry from Larry Amps: There was a point where I was even considering buying an amplifier from you due to several people's rave reviews about your product, but the way you conduct yourself on public forum, your asinine prices, and you lead times are just ridiculous.

Peter Diezel: You are very much so a gentleman, and I only had a chance to play your amplifiers on one or two occasions. I'm hoping one day you can still extend your offer to send me a VH4 to try out so I can record clips for your website and return it to you.

I believe alot hold back, just imo.

For obvious reasons that need not be said...

How many people who solicit help on (any) forum are getting responses that are 100% objective and are truly in their best interest? Not many in my view, they are always colored in some way.

Instead they are told what to buy based on what's popular on the forum, what they own or use, who they want you to support and gets the sale, etc.

In almost any forum people are funneled into a narrow range of choices that are "approved" by the community, even if those choices might not be the best solution for the person soliciting advice.

So, buyer beware.

Also lets not forget it's not always the builders that cause people to hold their opinions back, but the rabid fanboi's that can ruin open exchange by circling the wagons around anyone who's opinion they don't agree with.

So what you end up getting when asking questions is filtered opinions at best that don't paint the whole picture.

Like mentioned above I also advise using pm's to keep people off your back/find out the truth.

Yes I'm bored at work and this post took me right up to leaving for the day, lol.

This.

Actually, I had a well known speaker businessman who frequents here and has his own subsection shit all over my WTB ad where I was looking for speakers shipped to me for $250. In a nutshell, he just kept on going on about how ridiculous it was to post the ad, that my price was ridiculous, I didn't let people know I was in Canada(it's under my avatar) etc..etc. I shit you not, he made no more than 20 posts rambling on about it. I started calling him a troll and posted pictures illustrating him as thus. Others were even chiming in on how they would never do business with him. To put the story in context, all of his posts were deleted from my thread that clearly painted him as an asshole.
So, no, people aren't honest about these smaller manufacturers and if anything does come out about them, even if they made themselves look like idiots, the posts are deleted and all record of the events are gone(well not really, I saved a screenshot :D ).
Yeah, I have seen alot of posts and even entire threads deleted in the past to cover up scams and b.s which basically kept it going even longer. I also recieved a few internet tough guy messages for giving my honest opinion.

There is a difference between giving honest feedback, and attacking someone.

I tend to not go out of my way to offer opinions unless it is to the extreme one way or the other.

I will not hesitate to praise those that deserve it, and I try to give accurate reason why I don't care for a particular product or vendor.

I think some people don't want to stir the pot or call someone out due to the number of fanboys that will ultimately attack them.

I try to give honest opinions, most people know how i dont like engl amps, diezel vh4 and einstein, jvm100, lynchbox and a bunch of others. theres also amps like the fortin vintage modern that was a nice amp but didnt do it for me and just because i didnt like it doesnt mean somebody else wont. i dont really care about whats popular or the flavor of the month like alot of people and im not gonna buy something just to fit into a certain group or club of people, i dont care if i fit in and i dont want anybody to stroke my dick, i play what i like and if i hate it i will be sure and let you guys know.
also most of the stuff i like is stuff alot of people hate like gibson, emg, esp and prs of which have shitty quality, or no soul, or sound generic. i try to give you guys the truth and im not about boosting a builders fan base.

i didnt think the poll would be so even.

Tell the truth--nothing gets fixed by glossing over problems/issues.

I have no respect for someone who can't accept critique. If you can't put it past yourself that you are not perfect, then you will never improve in any way. A friend used to send me links to product reviews that he did for money, and when I gave him feedback on things he should or shouldn't have done or make suggestions about things that would make his reviews more marketable and unbiased, he would get offended and it would possibly lead to arguments. Learn to be a man. There is a difference between critique and attacking someone though as mentioned above. If I had a product that someone didn't like, it wouldn't bother me because I like it. Now for someone to say that I don't do good work or that I shouldn't do what I like doing for the sheer fact that I like doing it, that is something else.

Interesting findings in this thread.

You would think a forum like this would be better than the current 50/50 in the honesty department review wise.

To Tfridgen:
For those who didn't see the original thread, I wasn't the first one to comment on his lowball WTB ad, but tfridgen has decided to go on a vendetta against me since I questioned it. For the record, I apologized to tfridgen in his thread, and via PM as well. Not sure what happened to his sale thread, but if the posts are gone I didn't do it, I don't have moderator powers, nor did I ask to have my posts deleted, or cleaned up. My only guess is that after I deleted my comments about his lowball offer on a quad (that I thought was unrealistic and insulting), that he went on negatively posting pics/comments/etc, and the mods stepped in and edited his thread.

And now I'm apologizing to tfridgen for "shitting on his low ball want to buy four speakers for $250 shipped/paypaled" thread again, for the third time!

While I sent you an apology via PM, and in the original thread, it's apparent you don't/didn't feel like acknowledging that. So I've apologized three times to you now, and I feel that's more than sufficient. I had a bad day that morning being awakened at 4 am by a screaming Harley Davidson, and I took offense at what you were asking of a seller. I'll just learn to shut my mouth and not comment on threads that I find unrealistic from here on out.

This also means that I won't be advising RT members on anyone who posts an ad on cabs or speakers that might be misrepresented, overpriced, or fraudulent as well, since it makes sense that I not involve myself in any of them so I don't offend the lowball, or high priced sellers.

So tfridgen, you've been apologized to publicly twice, and once via PM. I hope you can accept my apology, but if not, I guess I'll see you bad mouthing me by innuendo in numerous unrelated threads to come, won't I? Have a good weekend. Hope you got your quad of speakers at $250 shipped to Canada/paypal gift/etc etc.

Ya, I'm on a real tear here badmouthing you left and right any chance I get  . For the record, one person with a posto count of 2 used only an emoticon and the rest of the posts(there were many) were asking you to shut up and stop shitting on my thread. Other posts even went as far as to say they will never buy from you for your idiotic actions. Also, you kept on making comments long after after I had stopped, but seriously who gives a fuck.

Anyone find the above post in this particular thread somewhat ironic   ?

Anyways, backhanded apology denied, and actually, I did find some!! Wasn't so stupid after all I guess!

To RT, sorry for single-handedly ruining it for everyone in regards to the speaker god's advice on everything speaker related. I guess now even he has to follow the Classified Forum's rules!

Even though I apologized to you for my posts in your thread, that doesn't mean your WTB wasn't a lowball and insulting offer (and I got emails from RT members saying quite a few unsavory things about you, as well as calling your offer brutal, so I wasn't alone in that thinking, I just posted it and they didn't), and I stand by that statement that your offer was unrealistic.

But it's obvious I can't be a member here and act like other members, without my business being involved/attached, which was your only defense, right? The fact that my business had nothing to do with your lowball offer is irrelevant. You had to make it about that, and your post that you were going to buy Scumbacks if you didn't get a quad for $250 from someone else. As if...please, you and I both know you would never buy speakers from me, if your price point on a quad was $250 shipped, so yeah, I did call you out for that lie as well.

So what I have learned is that you can't call out people for being a lowballer and insulting people's intelligence. What I've also learned is that you can't just move on, even after being apologized to. So I guess apologizing to you was pointless, huh? So be it, then, I tried, but don't think for a minute you were perceived by everyone as being all that fair, OK? You have a good weekend, even if you are upset at me still (obviously!).

Oh my word, unsavoury words about someone they don't know, must have been terrible!

I didn't make it about your business, you advertising your business on your avatar, having your name as your business name and saying stupid shit made it about your business. That and the fact that you posted how much your speakers would cost to ship to me may have also played a part in tieing your comments to your business.

Really, what you're trying to say is you want to be able to act like an asshole and not have people attribute that to your business.

This is my last post on the matter, remark away man, remark away.
