Next time I get one in I will indeed do a pre & post.
Likely start using a large diaphragm cond mic as well.
Might even take some guitar lessons. Okay screw the lessons. Had hand surgery but it is a long road back...maybe.

It is Nik at Ceriatone’s copy of Mark Cameron’s CCV.
I personally prefer the analog all tube circuits but Mark did a great job be at smoothing out and perfecting the what is now commonly referred to the Jose/Atomica circuit on the hot side with a added clean channel to include the entire tone stack etc...
Mark told me he tuned each to the customers request. He had two versions to start from as I understand. The slope resistor and power amp sections were differed to represent the Marshall or Mesa preferences.
Someone may stop by to correct me but that is and was my understanding.
I will say that I was working on a Chupa at one point when Mark called years ago and we happened to ask about some details. I reciprocated I started laughing as he knew from my answers exactly which “amp” Nik reverse engineered for most of his Jose type preamps as Mark was out of the usual component values in some positions and substituted closely to which Nik apparently copied.
Mark gave me the preamp schematic. I keep from doing the entire build but at this point everyone seems to have it down or taken to new tighter clipping heights.
Nik’s version is not bad by any means but sounds to my ear more like a Mesa.

So if we wanted one or the ultimate marshall, what amp would you suggest we start with?

You would have define what is ultimate in your opinion as I like all tube high gain and others like Jose clipper type mods to out right death metal bees in a can clipping and everything between.
How many channels do you need etc.

I’d like an amp that does the AFD stuff. Then 80-90s hair metal with feedback and the amp feeling alive. I don’t need it to do Mesa gain but a cleaner but heavily overdriven Sound that has punch.
give me afd and Steve Stevens. I don’t need clean but sure, that would be nice.
