What the hell kind of cult shit is this bird thing with PRS? Now I have heard that the bird guitars are a tan pants thing. But i have heard they play well, so we won't bash the guitar.

Instead, let's get to the bottom of this cultish boomer phenomenon. What is the reason for the birds? I honestly would have bought one a long time ago if they didn't have those ugly fretboards. The carve tops look nice.

Just another one of Paul's revolutionary, ground breaking, innovative designs. Is an LP double cut still an LP double cut if it has bird inlays? Is a strat still a strat when it's draped in ornithology? NO SIR!!!
 
I like the birds. Really, I like all kinds of fancy inlay work. It's really cool. I've always been too cheap/poor to buy any of it though. I've spec'd custom necks with custom inlays so many times, drooled over them, and let them because of the cost.

I'm not a big fan of PRS guitars personally, being a simple super-strat guy, but they are excellent instruments.

it enhances the tonewoods in solid body guitars. :D

I mean, any more or less intricate inlay is cool. There is nothing wrong with birds, they look better than simple squares or dots.

To me they might be only likeable thing in PRS.

I would like a guitar with custom inlays too, but i’t no easy feat to come up with something cool without making half of your fretboard turn into mother of pearl, idea of which I don’t like tbh.
 
I don't hate or love the birds, I don't even notice them anymore but my favorite PRS guitars I have played don't have birds

I always wanted to do yin yang inlays as I always have had a yin yang symbol somewhere on stage with me. (I was given one from a friend when I was young and we had one of those deep convos you have late at night in HS while flying high.) Even that simple inlay would be stupid expensive.

Everything else usually is too much for me. I have sharks on my Jacksons, I suppose. Actually, I love the black sharks on maple fretboard look, but never bought one.

My favorite PRS guitars don't have birds and they all say "Gibson" on the headstock.
 
I’d love a PRS with Big Bird, Sam the eagle from the Muppets, Tweety Bird, Woodstock, Toucan Sam from Fruit Loops cereal, etc inlays. It’d still look less stupid than those 10k PRS Dragon guitars
