How does a EG3/4 cut through the mix?

Thanks again.

Maybe I have to check with the speakers.
What tubes are you using with the SL2x? That also would do a change.

The thing I love so much about the SL2 or SL2X is how much Channel A sounds like a JCM 800.

Muudrock, I find that interesting because I found the EG3/4X brighter than stock. Wether it is perceived or not I noticed I cut the mix more. I so agree the mids are huge with X version because it retains the low mids and adds the upper mids. Weird though because the Sl2X does not act in a similar fashion....it gets brighter with super upper mid cut....where I find the low mids bigger on the stock SL2.

Definitely diggin the EG34X a lot. I agree 100% with Nick here. If you want dark smokey tones....the EG34 is it...if you want smokey tones, with a bit of upper mid bite ....then the EG34X is awesome.

I know folks like muudrock own on the EG34...or EG34X. I sold him my second EG34X, and he's really diggin it. If he's digging it...I know anyone that loves the EG34 will like the EG34X! :)

Agreed!
I never had trouble cutting with the EG3/4 , even with another guitar player on stage. But.....I'm a treble nazi and have been known to walk over to the other guys amp and turn the highs down...

With V30 speakers, the EG3/4 has enough cut because it has such a good midrange--this is where your live tone is made or lost IMO. FWIW, I also changed the tube board treble bleed cap value from 1000uf to 500uf. The EG3/4X has a slightly different mid curve than the stock 3/4 and to my ears actually isn't as bright on the top end as the stock module. My 3/4 is brighter than the 3/4X I got from Eric. Go figure???

It's a different brightness.....if that makes sense. The 3/4x is warmer overall to my ears but the top end is opened up a little more so it has a little more clarity. The stock 3/4 has a different mid thing going on and sounds thicker as opposed to warmer and the top end isn't as open--it's stiffer. This is in my rig, YMMV with yours.

No, I totally hear that.......I guess when I think about it...I see what you mean about being not as bright. It is still plenty thick though!

The SL2X....I find is much warmer in stock SL2 form. I have been doing the bass mod on the SL2 but not the upper mid mod..........I like the SL2 stock and the EG3/4X.

I am like you with the 500pf tube board cap. Ever thinkg of trying the 250 or 150pf?
