How many amps have you owned? Do you keep a running list? Let’s see it!

  • Thread starter Thread starter Soundstorm

What's been your favorite pick or picks so far?
Well it really depends for what styles of music. In terms of just pure quality of tone & 3D complexity nothing I’ve heard yet could touch the one ‘70’s Dumble ODS50 I tried, but it wasn’t a metal or hard rock suited amp. It made any “3D” amp I tried up to that point seem 2D (it would be 5D lol)

For high gain I’d probably say my Rev C Dual Rec of what I have currently. For cleans a tie between my Schroeder DB & 1963 Vox AC30 Top Boost. For medium gain again my 1963 Vox AC30 Top Boost, 1980 Jim Kelley, Alessandro’s and then maybe the Gjika 10N right after those ones

I go on the basis that a single amp must have to cover all the bands I play in so I rarely have more than one amp at a time. So here’s the list in order of ownership

Line 6 Spider 3
H&K Puretone
Egnater Renegade
Diezel Dmoll
Fender Supersonic
H&K Duotone
Carol Ann OD3r
Carol Ann Triptik
Mesa TC50
Suhr Bella
Bogner 3534
Bogner 101b
Carol Ann Tucana
Suhr Corso
Friedman Twin Sister

I’m currently shooting out the Tucana and the Twin Sister but also have a Bogner Goldfinger superlead on the way, so two of the three will end up being moved on. The Suhr Corso is my practice amp and my direct solution (along with the cab m).

I have been an acoustic player (flamenco, gypsy jazz, archtop jazz, and ovation) for most of my career, but within the last few years I have bought (and thus still have):

1. Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ in wood and wicker with matching Thiele
2. Mesa Boogie Mark III Red Stripe combo
3. Mesa Boogie Mark III Blue Stripe head with 4x12 cabinet
4. Mesa Boogie Mark III Blue Stripe Combo
5. Mesa Boogie Mark III Purple Stripe Combo
6. Mesa Boogie Mark III Green Stripe Combo
7. Mesa Boogie Mark IV - Revision B wood and wicker combo
8. Mesa Boogie JP-2C with 4x12 Cabinet
9. Hughes & Kettner Warp X with 4x12 Cabinet
10. Hughes & Kettner Triamp Mark 3 (used to have Mark 2 though)

I just need a Black Stripe, Road King, and a Mark VII, and I'll be set.

I've owned a measly 9 amps compared to soundstorm.

Have 5 at the moment.

Favorites of the current lineup: SLO-30, BE-50, and the honeymoon is starting with a SL67.
I prefer the BE-50 over the BE100, to each their own.

Would like to try a FUCHS and a Metropolous.
I have a Fuchs mantis, great amp

Made some edits from original post of my amps, pre's and power amps. Added power amps. Alot of this gear overlapped. Pre-amps and Power amps are pretty much in order of use/purchase. Alot easier to remember the order of those.

This thread makes me feel so much better, I'm going to be sure to show it to my family and coworkers who all think I'm absolutely nuts.

I keep an updated list with pictures and even gut shots on my website, but some amps that get damaged/returned/etc during shipping I never take the picture and forget about. Basically anything I didn't get to actually spend more than an hour playing, which has sadly been a few - the nature of buying used amps many times with high quality GC packing jobs. I'm still working through adding schematics and gut shots to all of the amp pages but for example the Mesa page is done, if you click on an amp that I still own there it should have pictures of the chassis, guts, everything. I'm working on adding schematics for all of the amps but I've gathered up a lot of schematics (some sent to me privately via email) and I don't want to cause a fuss by putting them online without permission - I'm just cataloging this stuff for fun because I like to talk about amps, not trying to step on anyone's toes.

The craziest thing about my list I think is that I still own almost all of these, and I still have a couple more I really want to get my hands on (including some famous ones like Diezel VH4, Bogner Ecstasy, etc).

Money is a little tight for me at the moment but I'd really like to get my hands on a Soldano Avenger, PRS Archon, and Landry LS100 right now, would love to compare those to some of the other things in my collection. I spend a lot of time playing music and using an ABY to switch between two amps, that's kind of my niche hobby. I love hearing the differences between them through the same guitar and speakers while I play along.
