I started playing Baritone in school band when I was 9. Ended up that and then playing in the St Louis Youth Orchestra for a year. Quit, and my grandparents bought me a jazz bass in Branson, MO. Was a pretty easy transition for me. Got sick of playing bass about 2 months later and traded it in for a Peavey Predator and that was that.

I started at 8 and was way to young to conceptualize any aspect of notes or theory. It turned me off playing for a long time until I heard painkiller and really wanted to learn it.

It’s funny, I sort of agree with this, but there’s a kid in my kid’s class that plays piano, and he’s actually pretty good (so he’s been playing for a while) which gives me hope.
