If you've never checked out modeling then you would be doing yourself a huge disservice if you don't at least try it out.
How's that for enabling?
Biggest issue is monitoring. If you play mostly at home you don't want a big powered PA speaker, you want a decent pair of studio monitors. If you do gig, get both. You will hate your tone at first--fight through it. It takes a good amount of hours IME to start to vibe with the environment (big thumpy tone hitting your knees that's prob way too loud vs pristine tone at ear level).
