Yikes, I don't want to get cut but at this point will see how bad it becomes or if it starts to heal. I don;t like getting cut.

Brent, 'sorry to hear about your finger but I'm sure it will be fine given enough time. You're lucky, I had a disk replaced in my upper spine that was causing nerve damage. My fretting hand has about 75% or so of the strenght it used to have...doc says it's the best its gonna get. I still play but no where near the level before the damage.

In your case, it's just a matter of time before you're shredding again...Hang in there man. :)

I just broke the middle finger of my fretting hand playing football on Thanksgiving. The doctor told me to keep it totally immobile for 6 weeks. I have a gig New ears Eve so that isn't an option. I just took the splint off a few days ago and I've been working feverishly to rehab myself. It hurts like a bitch. Last night we had our first full rehearsal in a month and by the end I was in so much pain I almost could not play. I have most of my mobility back but I cannot use that finger for vibrato or bending notes. I've still got a couple more days of healing so hopefully I won't suck too badly monday night.

No more football for me. Playing guitar is more important to me than a couple hours of football.

I mashed up my pinky when it got caught between a 100 gallon compressor tank we were moving and a metal door frame. Chopped it wide open, you could actually see the mashed up bone, tendon, thru the cut, the whole thing was twice the size at the middle joint and no good at all. I had to use tape to keep it up an out of the way since it was a useless digit. After cryin an whinin a bunch I was told after the 5-6 week mark to soak that hand in the hottest water I could stand and to slowly squeeze a large car-wash type sponge in epsom salts for an hour or so every night, continually adding hot water to the mix the entire time. I went stir crazy after a few months of this but I was totally scared not to have mobility in my finger an that helped drive my continual therapy night after night. I continually compressed and squeezed that finger thru its full range of motion, in and OUT of the water, and got 3/4 mobility back after a few months of this nonsense. It probably took a year total overall but I SWEAR I woulda been FKD if not for that continual push in the hot water. Saved my finger, for sure. Dont get discouraged, it WILL come back if you put the time in and convince yourself the aggravation is worth the effort.... After all, its all about the METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did the same thing. I was playing basketball with some friends and fractured the tip of my pinky. It took around two months before I even attempted to start playing normally again. I just put it out of my mind and tried to get used to it and before I knew it, my pinky was back to normal.

I crushed my right ring finger in a cardboard bailer at work in early '05, damn thing doesn't hurt anymore but is shaped funny and is mildly numb unless I accidentally tap it just right - then it hurts for a good two hours straight.

Luckily that's my picking hand though.

As an Aviation mechanic my hands take a beating. About half of the time my playing goes like CHUGGA...ouch!...CHUGGA...ouch!...Meeedly...Meeedly...ouch!,ouch!,ouch!....
