In terms of playability, finish, and pure quality, Carvins are in the league of your $3,500 TGP, HRI guitars.

I had a guy build me a guitar locally with the carvin neck thru body neck blank. Amazing playability.

It was around 1500 and that was with SS frets, birdseye board, tung oil neck, and 14" radius option upcharges

My DDC727 is one of the nicest guitars I've ever played (or owned)
once I got the stock pickups out and dropped in a set of BareKnuckles I was all set.
the best 7 string I've played yet. the Loomis was nice too! I've got an OFR on there now too (I need some new pics).
