I HAVE JUST BEEN SCAMMED: Ebay/Paypal rant

So I put my imac up for auction on ebay. Within not even 8 hours of it being listed some dude hits the BIN for $2000.
Doesn't contact me for 3-4 days. Finally does, and he said he'd paypal me and want to meet up with me for it cause he's local. I wait for the paypal $$$, it comes in, and i immediately withdraw it into my bank account, then met up with him at the front of a Tim Horton's. Shook his hand, gave him the Imac and we parted ways. Today I'm about to pay Oblivion_DC for the mesa studio 22+, i login to paypal and i'm negative, owing $1300.

The fucker reversed the payment claiming it as 'unauthorized activity' and tried to steal the $$. Fortunately he only got away with $600 (from another transaction, which I also withdrew to my bank account, but paypal caught it before it could go into my bank account thus me owing the difference). I'm out $600. I call paypal, and spoke to the head guy Peter, he can't help cause I don't have a signature or any documents proving that the transaction was made. I can't file a complaint with ebay until tomorrow (7 day waiting period) and my paypal acc is frozen. I've called the local authorities....left a message. Is this all I can do?!

Is there anything else I can do as of now while waiting for the fuckin cops?!!!
 
That sucks man. Don't expect the cops to really do anything though. I got scammed out of $800 on an Ibanez earlier this summer and they basically said I was just out of luck. They really didn't seem to give a fuck, at all. :gethim:

There are some real shit bags out there.
Hope you get your money back. Find that dude and take a hammer to his head.

That sucks man. If someone picks something up from me in person, I will only accept cash mainly for that reason. Plus I'm not paying a paypal fee if the deal can be done in person.

I think I might have some luck on my side

Another ebayer just got scammed by him and has some more evidence than I do, we're meeting up tomorrow at the police station together with all our evidence. Hopefully this'll end in a non-violent manner.
 
that absolutly sucks to hear. Hope you are able to get your cash back.
 
Feel for ya :doh: I just got ripped off but it was for only 21 bucks. A guy won my auction and sent the money to paypal. I sent his package via USPS and didn't bother to get a tracking number. The guy email me a nasty email saying the item was defective. I said send it back for a full refund. He didn't want to do that. He wanted to keep it and get the refund. I said no way. He filed a claim with paypal saying he didn't receive the item. Paypal would not even contact me to let them hear my side and show the emails and USPS recipt. They gave the crook his money back. I filed a fraud complaint and Paypal has yet to return my email :thumbsdown: Paypal SUCKS

BTW. It appears that we are responsible to give the money back to Paypal. Maybe you should close your bank account and get a new routing number. Just a thought

sorry to hear that paypal's scammed you as well! I went to the bank already and took out all my $$, there's absolute 0 left. But I didn't close the account as it's part of some huge family account thing that my folks've got goin on.

Not sure how that will work? As long as Paypal has your routing number and if they decide to just take the money they would overdraw your account leaving you with a fine to pay. It seems like Paypal will only protect the buyer :no: Good luck and sorry that you were taken from these crooks (buyer and Paypal) :thumbsdown:
 
I won't deal with paypal anymore. I had paypal freeze $1200 on me from a routine check they did to a transaction I made 8 months previous to them freezing my account. They froze the money until I could show documentation of what the deal was for. I traded some guy for an amp from HC and he didn't send my amp. After several weeks, I finally got ahold of the guy and he returned my money through paypal ( long story and this was the best way to work it out). He then relisted the amp on ebay and sold it. Paypal was looking through the ebay transactions and noticed the amps auction was pulled and then a refund was given to me and then the amp was resold. The guys wording for the refund was something like "thanks for not busting me". He said that because I left things cool on HC. It took me 6 months to get my money back while they "investigated the transaction due to possible illegal activity", because they said the wording was suspect. I HATE paypal. Good luck I hope this works out for you.
