I just noticed I can’t post in the classified section

People are saying this sounds un-needed and a lot of people are saying "why do this?" Scams these days are getting crazy. It's not Nigerian prince shit anymore. It's people being sloppy with passwords and self computer security...and scammers taking advantage and getting into your reverb/paypal and robbing you blind.

Simply put, if you buy/sell here...this is a way to rest assured that if someone steals your password for any reason and tries to impersonate you...you will know and nobody will get screwed. Of course if you don't buy and sell here, you don't have to do it.

If you own a business or do any banking on your computer, I would suggest taking similar steps through various options these days accordingly.

I use Google authenticator to generate a new code when I need a new code. You don’t use the initial email ones which are there for a backup if you need to get into your own account not using an authenticator app or browser extension.

You download the Google authenticator app for your phone and add your username and password that you use on the forum. When you eventually need to put in a code on the forum you just open the app and give it the code it has on the screen.

The forum as a whole is using 2FA because real people are getting scammed out of thousands of dollars on the forum. They’re impersonating the accounts they’re hacking - my account was once compromised and the person who stole my account used the fact my location stated what state I was in to even give a fake zip code to seclude a sale. We as a forum have to step it up because we don’t have a choice anymore. 2FA will also reduce a lot of overhead for the mods doing account cleanup. Youre not the only one impacted - everyone who wants to post in the classifieds abides by the same set of rules.

Nobody has been scammed out of money yet that I know of. They "almost" were.

Some was recently on here. I’m not sure how PayPal and his bank handled it but I do know it’s actually occurred.
 
2FA isn't necessarily secure and can be quite detrimental to a person using their phone number through modern scams. I would never use my phone number for a 2FA on any site, especially a bank. ?‍♀️ That's not to say that it can't help keep accounts secure, it's to say that if someone accesses that information it will make it more difficult for you to prove that you are the real you.

I doubt every blackhat is stumbling over themselves to be first in line to gain access to the xenforo servers. I only made the statement because it has become a problem similar to identity theft.

Yeah, isn't there a sim swapping/stealing attack along those lines? Convince telecom to give you a sim card for someone's number, then use sim card to receive 2FA text messages/calls for that person? Advice among techies seems to be don't use SMS for 2FA, though unfortunately that's sometimes the only option when places require you to enable 2FA.

She only has herself to blame, if you ask me. And we would only have ourselves to blame for the obvious repercussions of what that path is heading towards, imo.

Yeah, well it's not recent. In her book, she said she drank wine, and just "went for a walk" in the woods alone. And ran into two other people. Those people just so happened to tell the NY Times the entire story.
