I've had my RP1000 for years. It's always delivered for an FX-only unit. The effects are more than adequate, not spectacular, but I only use chorus, flange, reverb, and delay, for the most part. And the fact that the volume pedal doubles as an attenuator, I can crank the amp and use the pedal to go from quiet, to as loud as I want. Plus I use an EQ in It's loop, and it works flawless. The RP1000 was a game-changer in It's prime, but that was years ago..

I've looked into a HX effects, which should be a step up in effects. I had a Pod Go for a short time. Sounded great, but it felt like a cheap plastic toy. I didn't like the less than durable factor. I've also looked at a GT-100, but it's huge too, as is the GX-100 and older M-13. Maybe I should consider pedals again..

Boss MS-3. Small footprint, great effects plus 3 loops to add your favorite pedals.

i use a zoom 70cdr
a model of pedals so to speak.
it does alright

HX Stomp is small-ish and pretty versatile. Add extra footswitches or an expression pedal if you need more control options.

check out the zoom ms-70 cdr....it's a pedal that does......everything....especially once you jailbreak it.

I thought the HX Effects was great when I had one. One of my favorite features was the ability to adjust parameters with my feet, without taking my hands off the guitar. Overall I thought the FX in it were awesome. I had sold my HXFX to switch to the stomp to get access to amp modeling and get a smaller footprint, but I found the user experience was just too condensed for me and hard to navigate. I’ve since moved to a quad cortex since I still need amp modeling but wanted something better.

HXFX definitely didn’t feel like a toy to me. The only spots where I could knock it are it’s size (it was a bit big for me) and that with both Helix units I found that the FX loops introduced some noise of their own into the signal where I don’t experience that at all with the Quad Cortex.

The Eventide H90 stuff is just about as “industry standard” as you can get when it comes to multi-FX in a fairly compact package. I’ve never used one though so I’m not sure what the user experience is like.

You could also check out the Andertons YouTube channel if you haven’t already. They added a guy they call “digital John” and they do a bunch of videos of digital guitar processing — at least more so than they used to I feel like. Theres a lot of other companies making multi-fx and modelers these days.

Could be loop dependent. The Friedman has an exceptional FX loop.

Use the global EQ.

I compare mine to in/out of the circuit and adjust the global EQ until I’m as close as I can get and then move on.

For what it provides, cost and it’s tiny footprint, it’s a winner.

Depending on if you need a lot of presets, you could just use something like a Source Audio Collider for Delay, Reverb, and kinda Chorus. I know I have considered this also.

Ms3 is a good unit but if I am honest I use it more for loop switching than effects... I prefer my h9 max
