I'll have to try the DL8. It's by Digitech, right? Looks exactly like a DD-3. :)

Don't be fooled by the looks... It is night and day better than a DD-3.

I'm a big fan of the old Roland SDE-3000 and Lexicon PCM-41 rack delays, as they always had a sound that nothing else could touch IMO. Well the DL-8 is the closest thing i have found in a pedal form, it's good enough that i would take it out to a gig instead of my Roland SDE.

Checkin' out clips of it. Sounds good. Fairly clear and crisp. I like that you can turn true-bypass on/off.

The Providence Chrono Delay also sounds nice. But I don't think I wanna shell out $500 on a delay pedal. I can get both a Flashback and a DL-8 and maybe a third pedal for that price.

Yup that was my thought too, as i originally was considering a Strymon or similar... But the DL-8 is much cheaper and sounds amazing, so i went with it!

I think I should reconsider the no-rack thing. They all sound much better than the pedals I've been checking out. And they would probably work much better in loops because you can set input/output gain. And they seem to be more clean/pristine. Which is what I'm looking for. Some of 'em are expensive, though.

Seems like the 2290 is the best for a dedicated digital delay. I think that'd be my first choice if it weren't close to $2,000 used.

How much delay do you actually use?

It's the only effect I use. And I use it a good amount.

For pedals, it's pretty much down to Flashback, Chrono, or Strymon. But it seems like a 2290 is what I'm looking for. So maybe a Flashback would be a good choice considering it's from the same company? I'm still concerned about running delay pedals in the VH4's loop, considering channel volumes can't be run too high or it'll clip the pedal's input.

I found this on my phone; production CCV w/a Flashback in the loop.

Probably not your thing, but it definitely worked well...

I love my flashback in the loop of my Boogie MKIV

I haven't experienced any issues with the gain, levels, overloading etc..

Thank you, sir. There were a couple of longer versions, but that's the one I still had; at one point, I pulled anything Cameron related from youtube, it was just just too much silliness

It's actually an OG Cameron cab (Chris Schmidt era), solder drips, burns, and all; bought it from Mark a few years ago. It's still my favorite cab

Thanks for the kind words :D

Hardwire DL-8. My new favorite delay!
I'm agree with MrDan666 and MarkDay this pedal is awesome delay I've put between my preamp and my power amp and no tone sucks no lost freq, only warm and deep delay like PCM41 delay!! I love iT!!

Been thru:
My old Boss DD
Flashback.
Memory Lane 2 + Jr
Strymon dBucket
Eventide

Sold everything and bought a flashback again... It AWESOME for the price.

Worst was the strymon... Never seemed to get into the mix.. too ambient and dominant.

Some of the tube buffered FX Loops i install in my mods have Send Level controls which adjust the Loop Send signal anywhere from -10db to +4db. Even with my Loop's Send Level turned really high up, i haven't actually experienced any input overloading at all with the DL-8.
The Digital setting sounds totally clean/pristine, like a Lexicon or TC 2290. Not my thing at all, but i use the Lo-Fi setting which resembles the X2 setting on the SDE-3000 (seems to chop the highs down to around 6khz).

Hey MrDan, How it sounds the LO-Fi setting with high gain amps??
I only use the digital setting 450/500ms and I've founded clean repeats but with something warm and no cold sound like my Lexicon MPX1 with digital delay setted.
Thanks MAtte

I love my El Cap and hope to add a Timeline down the road, but the Diamond stuff is pretty intriguing also. The Memory Lane Jr kills! Haven't tried the Mem Lane 2...

I have an El Capistan, Timefactor and Timeline. Could recommend all three, but both Strymons are a league above. The Timeline is incredibly easy to use and sounds phenomenal.

I'm detecting some user errors in this thread. Tell me why a Timeline isn't clever in an FX loop? They work perfect in loops and if you want to shell out $500 you won't find anything better.

For 100 bucks the Flashback works, but no tap tempo and I didn't like the modulation on it and it's not tweakable. I much prefer the Strymon Brigadier, tap tempo, adjustable modulation. For around $250 used they're awesome.

There's a lot out there and depends on what you need and how much you feel like spending.

Damn you and your Strymon pedals, I want one now :(

I am a Strymon whore :( I sold all my other pedals and bought an El Cap, Ola, BlueSky, Timeline and Flint. Now I want an Orbit. Dammit.
