Yeah Mark is great. Bought an R8 from him a couple years ago and got a chance to try the amps. It was on my ‘next list’ when a 50w HG model popped up on CL. Killer grind, plenty of bite—if you love Marshalls you’ll love MGL amps.Mark is a great guy to deal with, and my MGL is my favorite amp ive ever owned and it isnt even close
I actually would have told you it was nothing like a Wizard. Then i played it side by side of a boosted Mc2 and it was eerie how close they wereClips sounds great, and I read a post where someone said their MGL sounded pretty close to a Wizard in a comparison.
Granted, JimB is a killer player that makes everything sound good.
I’m a YouTube whore…Maybe become a You Tube whore and Mark will loan you one
You'll be sold quick fast and in a hurry
Yeah. I never played the HG, but Mark tells me it is same circuit as Red. I believe they just added the extra master or clean. I took extra master, because the amp cleans up beautifully with volume roll.I had an MGL 50 HG and it was absolutely great. Right on par with my Marshalls and modded Marshalls but with a little more oomph and a few tasteful modern touches and tweaks. The addition of the NOS tubes was a really classy add-on and made the amp sound extra great. But the coolest thing was the response of the amp: punchy with an addictive feel, and saturated just the right amount. Killer amp, wish I still had it.
Correct, very touch sensitive and tons of swirling harmonics and yes, brown sound too. These clips are always impressive. These MGL's have had my attention for quite awhile. They sound extremely dynamic and touch sensitive with nice harmonic content. They got that nice chirp in the lead tones, and lean closer to the brown sound than most.
These new amps have separate channel voicings but I don’t view them as a channel switching amp. I play 1 channel, Vintage Dirty or Hi Gain, depending on the gig or track I’m working on and ride my guitar volume for cleans. That works best for me but Mark and I know a lot of players like the option of switching over to less gain or more gain or clean so you have that option.Yeah. I never played the HG, but Mark tells me it is same circuit as Red. I believe they just added the extra master or clean. I took extra master, because the amp cleans up beautifully with volume roll.
Your description is so spot on. The way i feel about it is mine is the perfect set it and forget it amp. The EQ, i feel like you are dialing to your speakers and room. This is a plug and play amp that has all the things you want a marshall to be with way more usable gain.
I suppose the new two channels are probably going to grab a lot of people with the different voicings, but as a single channel guy, i feel at home with the Red.
Responsive is a great adjective, but the clarity and the voicing are where they sold me.
