I think it's time for a diezel, which one?

I am pretty sure I want a diezel, not exactly sure which one, and I can only afford one. Is there a standout amp that is Better than the rest or is it just personal preference. I can't try any of these out before buying because no one has them in my area. A long time ago I played a Herbert and that is really what is making me look for these amps. I remember it sounding great.

Currently I have been playing peavey and Mesa amps and would like to take it to the next level. My bands tours have been getting larger and I feel it's time to upgrade the sound too LOL. Oh, and we are doing modern melodic death metal. The band is As They Sleep on solid state records , so heavy stuff

Any help with a direction of which amp would be best or even a tip on where to check em out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!

That seems pretty easy then. Now to track one down. Where do you guys buy your diezel amps?

I bought both my VH4 and Herbert in person locally.
Where are you located?

I would go with the D-Moll or Herbert. Most evil offerings with the mid cut feature that I know you'll use.

Thanks!

These are impossible to find anywhere near me. I envy all you guys with dealers that actually carry nice amps LOL

I guess a blind purchase on the Internet is the only route. Looking for a Herbert now.

Hey Nick....I am up in Saginaw.
Had both the VH4 and the Herbert.
Herbert is more metal for sure. but I liked the VH4 better. Seemed more THICK....like Metallica tone plus slayer mixed in. Super chugging galore.

Yeah they are pricey. I bought mine thru the internet.

Nick Morris, eh? If there's any relation to Chuck, it's no surprise you want a Diezel.

Herbert is a killing machine.
VH4 is the signature Diezel tone.
Hagen is a the do-all with a bit of grease mixed into it.
D-Moll is the melding of the soon-to-be defunct Einstein, with some tonal circuitry adaptations of the Herbert and others.

Thanks to all that have messaged me in trying to help out. I REALLY appreciate it. Sorry I can't respond back, I feel rude, but I am new here and don't have the privilege to message just yet.

This is a track off our last album and am looking to improve greatly on this type of wimpy tone.

Mailman1971, I use to love metallica tone. I still love black album tone and have started to appreciate load and reload tones more. (never slayer LOL) I really don't need a sound much heavier than their heavy tones. I just need quality.

With all the suggestions, I keep getting the feeling that I can't really go wrong with any of the Diezel amps.

Finding VH4's on Ebay seems pretty easy, but I have not seen any Herberts at the moment. Any other tips on places to search out? Thanks again!

Then you need the VH4 for sure.

Aaaaahhh! I thought I narrowed this down to the herbert. When someone says its more metal, what does that mean?

Sometimes I notice that tunings totally change the perception of an amps sound. We play baritone guitars in B and standard size guitars in D. Make any difference to you?

Herbert is really more 'industrial' sounding? Very metal....where the VH4 is just so thick sounding. Reminds me of the old Metallica tone but pumped up. Where the Herbert gets down to more modern metal tones. Does rock too....but has this harder edge to it. Hope this helps. Like trying to describe the color "blue" to someone...
Both are GREAT GREAT AMPS!! But the VH4 is more 'old school' sounding in the metal dept. ;)
But yes....it handles Drop tuning fine.

I think that really does help. I am going to got the herbert route first. If that doesn't pan out then the VH4 is up.

Yup....thats what I did since I couldnt afford both for sure.
Bought the VH4.....loved it...but all the clips of the Herbert...I HAD TO HAVE THAT AMP!
So I sold the VH4....bought a Herbert the same week.....loved it as well but preffered the VH4 tone.
If you get one and dont gel....no probs...just sell it...mark it off as experience...then buy the other one!
Yeah it sucks not being able to play these 1st hand in Michigan.

Hagen absolutely slays in B. Just saying.

VH4 or Hagen is my opinion. :D
