Your best bet is to buy from someone on rig-talk.
You can trust people on here more than eBay.
Most times your can track the amps history on this forum

Pretty cool that you guys have a nice little spot here to trade gear and what not.
This might be a good way to go. Anyone want to sell/trade their Herbert ?

I currenty own both, and they are both really close and very very good. I would hate to have to choose between them and it would come down to individual wants and needs. I dont think anyone can say one is " better" than the other.

I also own two german front loaded cabs, one with GK100's and the other with V30's, the cabs make a difference.

My band only uses Mesa cabs. Vintage 30s. Does the Herbert work well with vintage 30s or is there a much better choice.

Personally i like the Herbert with GK100's for gain channels and V30 for cleans, I keep mine plugged into my GK100 cab. I have a mesa v30 recto (tall) cab and the Herbert sounds very good through it, but they are rear loaded cabs so not as tight as a front loaded german Diezel cab. Nothing is that I have found.

I use my Herbert with V30s (in the Diezel 2x12). It destroys all.

VH4 is also great. What amp does the other guitarist in your band use?

We both have been using a combination of original 2ch triple rectifiers and peavey 5150 and XXX. The blend of all three on each side is ok. Better Than any by itself, especially the peavey stuff. It would be great to be able to at least take the four peavey amps out of the racks and replace with a couple Herbert's. it would be a bonus if the triple recs could be retired too.

In my experience there is great benefit to mixing any of the Diezel's with another head for your other guitar player.

For example, I am using Herbert and our other guitar player has a Mesa Roadster. Together we sound HUGE!!!

YMMV

Obviously, it would also be cool to have each of you using a different Diezel.
I mean once you buy one, you will just be biding your time until you have the BIG 3

Who here wants them ALL???
I mean many of us here have 2 Diezel heads and have even had the others at one time or another.
No shame in admitting the truth, a healthy Diezel addiction is good

What do you say Papa?

I have a Herbert and as shampoch said I prefer the drive channels with K100s. And as GtarLover said, I agree that mixing Diezels with other amps sound great. I tried it with an ENGL Blackmore and it was fun experimenting. It must be much heavier with two Diezel's mixed.

So here comes the crucial question: which Diezel do you think I should get next to accompany the Herbert? VH4 or Hagen? (I play mostly thrash stuff without scooping the mids and often on standard 6)

i have a VH4 and Herbert. both are perfectly suited for metal. the herbert plays easier and more like you're used to coming from mesa's or 5150s whereas the VH4 is very dry and unforgiving. the VH4 has more clarity and sounds thicker, though. not saying the herbert won't cut through, but it definitely has a more 'modern' sound. it can get scooped if you want it to as well.
