I think my new VHT Fat Bottom cab sucks

Either this thing really needs breaking in or it is just a POS. Somebody chime in before I return this thing. Sounds really directional, thin, and just downright strange. And I had such high expectations after owning and loving other VHT products. :aww:

Its a new cab....give it a year or so.

My cheapo Lopo cab loaded with cheapo Warehouse speakers kicked ass from the get go :aww:

Thinking of returning the VHT and just getting another Lopo........with a pair of GT-75's this time.

STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WGS speakers sound great out of the box. they are loose right away and sound broken in.

The Eminence P50E's are super stiff out of the box. You need to aim the speaker at the ground and put the master volume at 10 and start breaking those suckers in.

My USED FB 4x12 took about a year to REALLy break in. Seriously, your patience will be rewarded with the greatest cab in the world. only a noob sells a cab without breaking in the speakers.

don't be a little homo. please.

All I can say is the VHT cabs and speakers have a longer break in time. I prefer the Deliverance cabs, but thats me. Whether you want to wait is up to you.....any new speaker/ cab I've bought took some time to break in.....

I like VHTs quite a bit but I was disappointed with the Fat Bottom 2x12 I had too. I thought it sounded a tad flat. I played it for about 3 months at pretty healthy volumes and it never quite got me where I wanted to go. I wish I had gone with a Deliverance 2x12 instead. I say give it time. If you are patient it will work itself out I'm sure.

I never really liked the p50s to begin with and they take a bigillion hours to break in. I ended up changing the speakers in all my VHT cabs. The FBs (both 2x12 and 4x12) were my favorite cabs until I bought a D412. The FBs are very directional and many people don't like that - like all other gear it comes down to taste.

And I felt the P50's really brought my cobra cab to life after I took out those greenbacks.

I couldn't stand the 412 Fatbottom cab I used to own. The P-50 speakers are insanely bright and ear piercing with every amp I tried it with and I owned the cab for about 6 months. Get rid of those piece of shit speakers and it might sound better. ;)

I'd go with something loaded with Vintage 30's. To my ears they sound the best for guitar, and I've tried just about every 12" speaker made for guitar.

That's strange, I don't find them bright. To me they are just really thin and "hollow". However, I don't know if it is the speakers or the cab itself that I don't like. I've decided just to keep it and pound on it for awhile. I can always get new speakers for it.

almost sounds like it would be wired out of phase or something. maybe worth checking the wiring/polarity of all speakers in the cab?

I had a VHT fat bottom loaded with greenbacks and it was the worst cab ive ever owned, really thin and harsh sounding, Ive never liked those cabs with the p50s either. I think its the cab itself, maybe the deliverence cabs sound better.

Its not the cab, its the speakers. You will either dig them or not. SteveVHT has many VHT cabs and to be honest with you they sound great with the VHT amps and like ass with most other amplifiers IMHO. Id be willing to bet if you yanked the speakers and put in something else that you like, you will be home free.

all the best

I am not sure how different it is but I have the vht ported 1x12. Tht cab sounds great with every speaker I have put in there, but I never heard it with a p-50. I would say try two of the speakers you have for sale before they are sold. That way you can test the cab before your return time is up.

You are correct sir  I just tried every speaker that I have in the cab. The Veteran 30's make the cab sound great. There will a pair of P50-E's on the SPAM now.

A year for speaker break in?

That seems kind of extensive.

I've played my V30s for 3 months and they are nicely broken in, or they seem like they are to me.

I had a Fatbottom 2x12 for about 3 days. It was easily the worst sounding cab I've ever played through :aww:

Why don't you take it back and get a deliverance cab?

My 2x12 is awesome....but I do have a Weber in it, and 1 P-50.
