I want something other than my 20 shades of Marshall, but what?

I have a wonderful collection of amps, however they are all pretty heavily rooted in the Marshall DNA with my Uber Ultra being maybe the biggest departure. Have a few Hermanssons, a heavily modified XTC, GZ Hellion, and an Alta as well.

I am itching to add something else to the collection and would like for it to be from a different tonal palette, but am really struggling to identify what that could possibly be that will actually manage to stick around. So, for those of you that are also heavily in the Marshall camp, what do you have outside of that realm that has managed to stick around?

I am thinking of a GZ modded recto, but every recto I have previously had (including an early Hermansson modded one) has been sent packing. Have also had and moved along a KSR Colossus, Naylor Duel 100, Herbert mk2, Mesa Mk IIb (many years ago, so maybe a mark series again?), various 6505s, wizard MC and MTL, Bad Cat Lynx… but am a bit short on other ideas. Maybe a Diezel VH2? The new mk2c+ reissue?
 
It depends, what tones do you like besides marshall dna tones?

Just from your post, off the top of my head, Engl stuff - especially the Inferno, Artist, and Savage - Hiwatt Hi Gain 100, Wizard Hell Razor, and probably the IIC+ reissue
 
What tones are you looking for in a second amp- vintage or modern? medium gain or high gain?

Typically higher gain; vintage or modern is a little less important to me

Am on the hunt for a Hell Razor (in the classifieds already, will likely just break down and order new).

Very well could be up your alley. The Hot Chili I have is imo more of a rock Marshall-y voiced amp, but the High Octane is like a tighter recto that’s more ripping in the higher frequencies. Sorta like what the badlander wishes it was. Fwiw I preferred it to the GZ Triple G I had, but they were pretty different

Hughes & Kettner Triamp Mk3...or what I did late last year: Diezel VHX. I really like it, if you like a polished hi-fi sound, it's the JVM410H (which I own and love) of Diezel IMO
 
I say +1 to all the Mk II and Mk III votes. Gorgeous cleans which serve as a great pedal platform, and iconic crunch to high gain metal tones.

Tramps are sick, but fall into that modded Marshall camp pretty directly. Also, too much stuff going on for me. If I got an HK it would be the Puretone, and I would use it for straight in balls to the wall rock tones and with fuzz, treble booster, etc...

Strictly out of curiosity, what did you not like about the Recto's you've tried?

If I had to guess, based on the modded ones you did own, that they were TOO clinical (ie. lacking bloom/3D/breathing, whatever)?

What about a regular run of the mill recto on orange channel for example?

I like the Engl and Diezel recommendations. You've listed what you've already owned so maybe you Edit'd that in. Otherwise, some people just can't read.

Have you tried any EVH?

PS: Rectos + Marshall tone = sex
