price seems too low is that mij?
It's in the Ibanez Premium category...not J Craft

Gee, it seems like one would be better off with a Rasmus Guthrie Govan model or a regular Rasmus "Modern" model for that money.
What is that?

They are Suhr's import brand. Virtually, everything a Suhr is but made overseas....based on their Standard and Modern models. The Jem spoke of in this thread is basically the same thing to Ibanez as it is not made in Japan. Only difference is the Rasmus models are actually Plek'd at Suhr's U.S. factory (Jems are not), have actual Suhr wound pickups, same German-made fretwire as their Suhr models, Gotoh 510/Floyd bridges, and use woods from North America...except for the Indian rosewood fretboards....and I would venture to say that the Rasmus guitars are better built than this particular Jem. Lets face it, this Jem is just smoke and mirrors....mostly longed for, for it's unique finish and gimmicky cosmetics. I'm sure it's not a bad guitar, but I think a Rasmus beats it pound for pound. They just don't have the "sex appeal" that Jems have.

The JEM has,

Edge trem
Dimarzio Evo pick-ups
5 piece neck
More labor intensive fretboard inlay

Smoke and mirrors? You do know that the JEM spawned the RG series which is the 2nd most sold guitar in history right? I have no idea which is built better but they are both made overseas by factories that build probably many brands in the same building. I am sure set up both will play great and people are going to buy what they like.

About plek.....what did we do without plek for 60 years?

Hey, you make a good point. Jems are great playing instruments and did spawn the RG series. I just believe they are a bit overrated as a lot of ppl cling to them for their gimmicky cosmetic features alone....such as the monkey grip and vine inlays (which I don't think are as labor intensive as you may think)......you know, a lot of window dressing. A 5 piece neck just doesn't impress me much, as I'd rather have a solid one instead. I was mostly speaking about this particular Jem though....as to say a Ramus Modern goes for $1K new and a Rasmus GG model goes for the same price as this Jem but has a mahogany body and neck with more features than the Jem andnis also Plek'ed as well. You might not think much about guitars that are Plek'ed, but I can appreciate anything that makes them play better.....and Plek'ing does that.

But, it is all preference on what one likes. I was just saying that you probably get more for your money with a Rasmus vs. This Jem.....except cosmetically maybe.

The 25th anny RG550s were not Prestige models either and they were very well received, my RFR RG550x is an awesome guitar for what I paid back when they first came out.

Could you expand on "not Prestige models" please? I know they aren't stamped Prestige on the headstock, which I like, but they are made in Japan in the Fujigen plant. Just wanting to pick your brain for information.

As for the SFG, I'm just not digging it. Nothing wrong with it at all, I can't see playing it myself. Maybe it just needs a maple board.

5 piece neck is way more stable due to opposing grains and more labor intensive.

The vine is more labor intensive than dots, lets just keep it at that.

Many here would never touch a mahagony body superstrat; Tom Anderson, Suhr, and many others like basswood so that is a mute point.

Yes the colectors................I do not like them Sam I am...............not under their beds, not in their closets, not playing them until they are dead. But the fact remains that some JEMS do go for over 5 digits and that is that.

A flamed maple top is just as Robb Report window dressing as the monkey grip....both really serve no purpose.

Buy what you like and no I do not own a JEM so not defending what I own.

The neck does not get the prestige work from what I have read on Jemsite and I can believe it, fret ends are a tad sharp. Does not change my mind about anything, it is a great playing guitar.

I see, my Anniversary RG550s and RG770s are some of my favorites. I had to replace the pups in the RG550, I really dislike the stock pups in those. Other than that, both are great guitars for the $$$.
