Does anyone know what the settings are for the pentatone eq pedal to get the mesa mark 5 band eq frequencies?

They look pretty similar to Mesa freqs which are 80, 240, 750, 2200 and 6600, just a little less then noon on the left three should be close

The actual frequencies and Q width is not what it says on the Mesa GEQ. But it is close.

I have a PTEQ and haven't tried to match the Mesa GEQ.

Should be interesting to see what others have found.

Fryette duplicated the GEQ on the Synergy IICP module. Should be able to get that information.

Using a spectrum analyzer to get it as close as possible.

80Hz -> R=470 / L=1H / C=3.3uF ---> Real F=87.61Hz / Q=1.171
240Hz -> R=470 / L=0.39H / C=0.47uF ---> Real F=371.7Hz / Q=1.938
750Hz -> R=470 / L=0.22H / C=0.22uF ---> Real F=723.4Hz / Q=2.128
2200Hz -> R=1K / L=0.068H / C=0.15uF ---> Real F=1576Hz / Q=0.6733
6600Hz -> R=1K / L=0.033H / C=0.033uF ---> Real F=4823Hz / Q=1.000

Frequencies:
87.61 Hz
371.74 Hz
723.43 Hz
1575.87 Hz
4822.88 Hz
Q:
1.414 (ideal for octave equalizer)
1.3 (actual, due to co

No idea if these are accurate.

Interesting, any clue as to why they would label them differently on the amp then?

If the actual values of the EQ on the Mark amps is rounded, why wouldn't they round to an closer number thats actually accurate to the frequencies being affected? Something doesnt add up.

No idea. It's always been that way.

These numbers came from Cliff at Fractal. They came from a Mark IV. I believe they are accurate.

Ain't that something? I think it looks to sound about right. That middle slider/finger on my Boogie is a workaholic. For good reason I guess.

Probably because the company got its start from Randall literally just screwing around in amps with no formal education, and he just kinda did stuff. The EQ was probably made when they only kinda half knew what they were doing and it stuck.

Aww sheeit..
Pandora's Box is open..

I guess it would make sense at to why the 6600hz never to me at least sounds fizzy and grindy like a saw. Its very smooth almost cream like. Which if its actually 4800 ish hz, that would make it upper mids or low highs?

Not Mesa GEQ. But this is the shape I landed on a few times in the loop of a few amps.

I could put it in the loop of my Mark IV and compare the EQ's. I'm definitely curious.

It's become my favorite EQ. Really like the inherit voice of the PTEQ. It doesn't color like a lot of EQ pedals. Seems very natural. Easy to use.

I didn't like it used like a boost in front of the amp much. Need more time trying that. In the loop is awesome.

good to hear, was going to pick one up but was waiting for more reviews.

I do wish the sliders been larger. I feel the same about all GEQ. The knobs feel solid. Seem like the quality is decent. What you would expect from Ibanez.

The GEQ with the ability to set the frequency and Q feels very intuitive. It can get pretty extreme. But I use it to fine tune - focus the sound.

I put in the loop of a Fortin Xuul+ with a Zvex Fat Fuzz Factory driving the PTEQ. Definitely can get some unique colors and textures. Almost synthesizer.

I tried bass briefly. Did not try keyboards or anything else.
Taste is subjective. I like it.

Should be able to ball park the Mesa GEQ with this information. Easy to go beyond what the Mesa GEQ can do.

Every EQ has a inherit personality and sound. The Ibanez and Mesa do sound different. The Ibanez is working with a 9-volt and smaller capacitors so I would expect less saturation. But the fidelity is really good. Very natural sounding.

This does look like a cool pedal, if I didn’t have the Mesa 5 band and a parametric already I’d grab one

I have a few others. The other one I usually use is a MXR M108S GEQ.

I think in reality the only eq on the planet outside of what they actually used on the record that can actually get dead on accurate is probably the Source Audio EQ2. 10 band graphic AND 10 band parametric that can be adjusted to ultra specific frequencies and qs is what is needed for the Justice and any Metallica tone in general. The only issue would be what are the exact frequencies on the 2 Aphex EQF2s used on Justice or in the case of the black album if im not mistaken used 3. I dont think people realize just how much mids are actually present in the AJFA mix. The Mark series amps are naturally pretty mid heavy. If you scoop the mids on say a rectifier, a DSL, or even my TH30H, it becomes almost completely dead sucking out most of the gain and bite in your attack. Which makes me wonder why more amp manufacturers dont do the eq setup like Mesa does on the Mark series amps?

I did not like the sound of the Source Audio EQ2 at all.

It's inherit voice is definitely not for me. Taste is completely subjective.

I had a Aphex in the 80's. Sounds ok. Extremely noisy.

Interesting, I havent had a chance to actually try out a Source Audio EQ2 so I dont know how it actually sounds. I always was under the impression the Aphex was the cream of the crop as far as rack mount equipment went?
