Like others have mentioned just do it. There’s no better way to learn than to give it a go. They say 1/4 turn at a time but I’ve found myself having to go more than that sometimes but I’m also all electric and don’t have any high end gear so could be the cause, but in other words nothing but good has came from venturing out trying things.

I set up acoustics every day. You can turn the truss rod a full turn if that's what it needs. On Martins I usually set the relief anywhere from .006" to .003" - I make sure the height of the string measured at the first fret is a hair above .02" - If it's higher, I'll cut the nut slot until it's at that height. This usually gets a decent playing acoustic and all an acoustic needs.

If you want to take down the saddle, you need to hit those two steps first. Measure your action on the Low E and High E, subtract the number for the action you want. Double that number - That's how much you take off from the bottom of the saddle. Action at .12" on the Low E? Want it to be at .07"? - .12 - .07 = .05 x 2 = .10" Now mark .10 from the bottom of the Low E side of the saddle, repeat this step for the High E and mark that spot on the bottom of the saddle, connect the lines and sand the saddle down to that line.

Don't get too adventurous on removing saddle material from lower end (sub $1200 or MIM) Martins. They have a notorious neck hump and lowering the saddle will unveil this issue. Saddles are easily replaceable. Give it a shot. You can't fuck anything up seriously, just losing out on $14 and your pride. I charge anywhere from $100-117 for an acoustic set up that involves all this work. $65 for one where I just turn the truss rod 😉

Just FYI, I am smooth retarded. 🤣
The struggle is real…. I am as well…

Ok, let's everyone calm down, lol. I did not know that the action needs to be adjusted via the saddle and nut. I'll send pictures here in a bit.

I just wanted to make my acoustic a bit easier to play. It is fine as is but thought some slight adjustments would lower the action and make it a bit better.
Easier to play? C# standard….
