If one has a Monomyth Skeleton Key... which Wizard would you go for?

I currently all the wizards and the latest version of the SK. I’d go with the MTL mk2.

I’ve owned 16 or 17 Wizard and have played every model currently in production in various tube configurations. My favorite is my current 60w KT66 MTL mk2. Boosted, I prefer it over my HR.

Wizards have more punch and less saturation. The SK can get more aggressive upper mids and has a touch of compression to it.
I like the highs off mtl2 better but everything else for me is the hell razor .

I personally think your love of plush silvery gray carpeting has played into your tonal/amp choices. I can imagine the Modern Classic might be slightly muddy in that kind of room.

Modern classic is not an amp I’m into . But that carpet could do that lol it’s too plush
It has good punch, but it's hard to compete with a Wizard in that category. Fryette is up there. the SK is 50w.
I def would love to try a 100 once shea makes one . And not a modded amp . I want his own design

Dude you fools with the I've had 11 plus wizards...

:ROFLMAO:

NIce insight though. So the lower wattage stuff keeps up and sometimes can sound better?

I keep hearing go 100w because you get more bass response etc.

I don't care about head room. I don't jam live with a cab. Purely recording.

How would you know what's best for you unless you try them for yourself. Otherwise you put up a thread and have 10 different people telling you 10 different opinions about what is best. There's a few guys here that have similar tastes as me, or I know that they know what their talking about from personal, direct experience. After that it's a lot of dudes just chirping about what they read online. lol

50w on a Wizard is plenty. I've had the 150w and 100w versions. They're great amps, but at the volumes I play at (which is still pretty loud), the 50s were not lacking next to the 100s and 150s.

The SK punches hard for a 50w non-Wizard amp. But like Matt says...hard to compete with Wizard power sections. It's just something in the way they hit and move the speaker. Even the MC25s I've owned hit harder than most 50 and even 100w non-Wizard amps.

The GZ JMP 2203 MOAB+ I just got is one of the few amps I've owned that'll hit right there at Wizard level. Fucking amp sounds HUGE and hits so hard. This amp is on the same level as a Wizard in every category and actually seems capable of even more open/woody/organic tones than any Wizard I've owned. Insane dynamics and touch sensitivity. Like a Wizard, the clarity/articulation/definition is intimidating, but when your playing is on its something else. Can be wonderfully saturated with great compression in some of the switch and knob pull modes but it can also be one of the most raw/organic/room filling amps I think I've owned with gain cut pulled, lead gain mode off, and gain to taste. Need more time to burn the honeymoon but I'm feeling pretty confident this might be one of, if not the best amp I've owned. I've not had an amp leave my jaw on the floor like this one except for the first Wizard I owned, a 2017 MC2 100w E4L and a 79 loop modded MarkIIB. The GZ Hellion is a runner up and then the GZ Recto as well.

The Fryette CLX, D60, and The Splawn QR are a couple others that come to mind that I felt punched/hit close'ish to those levels.

This is an amp on my must try list. I have a GZ sniper modded HW plexi and one of the first things I noticed was how hard it hits. I was floored because it thumps just as hard as my wizards. Only amp I've played that does that.
