Not a neck brake. But it is something. It has been for that many years apparently and the weight is 4,3 kg. Not bad at all

They did, all the Zakk Wylde guitarsYou know you would think since everybody and their brother uses the Norlin LP Customs with the maple necks they would make a Custom with the maple neck... but nope.

The ones going for 10k+ ..They did, all the Zakk Wylde guitars

I always thought it was truly fucked that the Zakk sigs were so much money at a time when the guitar playing (and buying) public basically shit all over the Norlin years, but would pony up the bucks for a Zakk sig which is a copy of a Norlin. It was all about the reissues and historics etc. I have a pile of Norlins and I love them, I also have a nice Classic, a Traditional Pro and a G0, all great LPs, but I’d keep my Norlins over the others if forced to decide between them. The ones going for 10k+ ..
Couldn’t agree more and you’re right people have been shitting on them for years and mainly collectors. My Norlins have all had some issue from the factory but it’s nothing a competent luthier shouldn’t be able to resolve. Now that all of mine have been gone through, I’d sell off my Cameron aldrich, 5153S, and all other non Norlin guitars before I start selling my Norlin collection. They’re that good and the recipe to the Zakk wylde tone through a 2203 that I was missing for years.I always thought it was truly fucked that the Zakk sigs were so much money at a time when the guitar playing (and buying) public basically shit all over the Norlin years, but would pony up the bucks for a Zakk sig which is a copy of a Norlin. What is the nut width? The ones I've played had a 'Classical guitar' aspect in that they were not a chunky profile just the opposite but wide fretboard like a classical. But I forgot how thin LP necks and fretboards are.
I remove the binding nibs on a refret so that there’s more fret on either side. Seems like typical normal Norlin era QC with respect to the gap - can’t say mine had gaps in the fretboard at the nibs before a refret. What is the nut width? Mine also has a few spots with tiny gaps between the fret edge and nib and if you skate over it you'll hear it. Not sure if that's common with these.
Is it just me; or is the 's' in the Gibson logo look wonky?
Congrats on the new guitar!Guitar arrived safely. It's basically what I expected. Photos are pretty accurate for the color. It's not in as good of a condition as my previous ones (still kicking myself for letting those go), but it's still good for a 43-year-old guitar. No finish checking but all the plastic binding has shrunk a bit so anywhere there's a transition between wood and binding, there's a slight edge. You can see the seams on the three-piece top. And the finish is actually greener under the pickguard, bridge, and tailpiece. Not sure why. I would've thought the finish would be more preserved in those areas but no biggie.
Needs a serious setup. New nut, new bridge, possibly new frets. I'll probably get a Faber locking bridge and tailpiece. Sound-wise, it's meaty. But I forgot how thin LP necks and fretboards are. I can literally wrap my thumb over the top and all the way to high B string and still play normally lol. I've become used to wider, flatter fretboards.
Guitar has some character for sure. I'm happy with it.
My Vivian Campbell has a Walnut/Maple 5 Piece neck and I love it. But its not in production anymore. They say only 250 made (plus 50 signed), but I think I got the last one made at #93. It was a 2018 model built in 2021 (probably pandemic delays as the shop had ordered it years before) and I haven't seen a new one on the market since. I didn't even know who Campbell was before I bought it, just loved the Silverburst "burst" look (as you can see the wood grain unlike normal silverburst). No signature model items either on the unsigned (no graphics or artist specific designs). You know you would think since everybody and their brother uses the Norlin LP Customs with the maple necks they would make a Custom with the maple neck... but nope.
I'm talking current production
Make sure to carve Ren & Stimpy into the backwood upon arrivalI actually had three of these in the past. A '79, and two '84s. I let them all go years ago and I regret it. They were freakin' immaculate too. The '79 was still silver and the '84s were yellow/green juuuuust slightly. Enough to have a nice patina, but still not gross looking. And they had no damage. All super clean. I started looking for another one recently and discovered prices are now utterly insane. This is one of the cleaner ones I've found that wasn't priced at like $12,000 - $16,000 (omg that blows my mind). It's more green/yellow than my previous ones, but it still looks pretty good. Should be here in a few days.
