Interesting Turn of Tone Events at the ‘ol GC

I miss old Mars Music stores. They were like "CRANK IT UP". And that's why I bought items there.
There are two closer Mom and Pops that I patronage a lot more often than GC. One has rooms and tells you to have fun. The other only asks between certain hours not to crank it as they have paying customers getting lessons and they're pretty small, so I understand that and doesn't bother me. GC used to not care and would mostly encourage it, but I feel like when they were bought out by investors they went tan pants on us.

I want one

I have never used a compressor. What does it do
It takes dynamic peaks that cross a threshold level you set and squash's them down at preset ratio (pedals) or at one you set manually (rack gear/plugins). It helps dynamic instruments sit more evenly in a mix. Bass, clean electric guitar, acoustic guitar, vocals and Kick and Snare being mainstays of needing it.

Distorted electric guitar is so compressed by being heavily clipped in the amp it doesn't need it but sometimes people use it for effect anyway. eg. more sustain in single note lines.

Whenever you are playing with low or medium gain, strats and teles with single coils especially need a compressor @JackBootedThug

Lots of guys use tube amps with those types of guitars/tones specifically because it compresses the signal and makes it easier to play

Been playing my Ninja turtle bass tho
I need to find a good neck for my old ninja turtle beater strat body. I have a circa 80 tele neck, but not sure if I want to destroy the neck pocket for it. I should probably pass it on to one of my kids and let them not do anything with it either .

If you like the BE OD, try one of Griff's versions. I have the Tone Ripper, and the Ban Hammer is also a clone. More jagged/raw/open sounding than the smoother BE OD. Killer into my 72 Trem.
This 100%. I compared the BE OD and Tone Ripper side by side and the TR smoked it in every way. More aggressive, raw, open, and better clarity.
