DiMarzio had the same coil layout as the new Duncans (when viewed from the top) on the "Three 90" pickup they designed for the VOX Virage guitars several years ago. Prince used that guitar. VOX had an exclusive on the "Three 90" pickups. I don't know what they look like internally. Thanks to eclecticsynergy for the photo!

Then a few years later, DiMarzio came out with the FANTOM P90 series pickups using a similar coil configuration (when viewed from the top). The FANTOM P90's have a stacked single coil setup in the middle flanked by two skinny coil bobbins. The new Duncans use the same coil configuration when viewed from the top, BUT, the Duncan pickups have a true single coil in the center flanked by two skinny coil bobbins.

DiMarzio FANTOM P90 diagrams are here. Scroll down a bit to see the diagrams.

Duncan's design can be viewed in this video starting at the 37:41 mark.

I totally geek out on this stuff.

The pic in my previous post shows the DiMarzio "Three 90" pickup designed for VOX. My text wasn't very clear about that. I tried to edit the text but what normally works to edit didn't work.

There is no cure for my gear geekery. I don't want a cure! LOL
