Is a Recessed Floyd on a Charvel a good idea?

So is there an accepted definition of what a superstrat is or not? So far all I see are opinions...

The 1st "Super Strat" was invented by this MAN, out of factory 2nd parts. ;)

Pffftt... It's a strat with a new pickguard and a humbucker. Nuthin' "super" about that... Already done dozens of times before Ed as seen elsewhere in this thread. Jackson Soloist is the first super strat.. or I'll even concede Grover's innovation of rear mounting the electronics and doing away with the pickguard on strats ala EVH's bumblebee (invented by Grover, NOT Ed!), but I still believe the Soloist is the first real super strat.

I still think we should argue about it some more though... This and the Jose thread are the best ones in years...

I think Ed's were super because his playing was super in a popular music context reaching masses of people.

I could've sworn that he was the 1st to put a humbucker in a strat, and the 1st w/ a humbucker strat w/ a Floyd, and the 1st w/ rear mounted electronics, on a Strat body shape-- not to mention this was quite some time before Jackson's name was on the map. I would go even further and say that-- but for him, Jackson's name would not be as noticeable as it is.

Either way, it was obviously innovative.

Ed's 1st BB guitar, you'll note the Charvel logo, not Jackson's.

Nope. Go look earlier in this thread. Gilmour had a strat with a humbucker in '68... many did it before Ed...

The Floyd Rose was someone else's innovation, not Ed's. He certainly popularized it, but he didn't invent it.

Once again. Grover Jackson came up with that idea, built one for Ed and Ed popularized it...

Your first statement is incorrect since Grover built EVH's bumblebee, but I'll agree that Ed popularized stuff that led to Charvel/Jackson getting notariety...

Yes, Grover certainly was quite innovative... :D

Yeah, but Grover Jackson bought Charvel from Wayne in '78. This guitar was built by Grover Jackson's Charvel, not Wayne's. Did you not know that Wayne was already out when this guitar (with its no pickguard and rear mounted electronics innovation) was built? This innovation was Grover's... Wayne basically repaired guitars, built some parts guitars and sold other people's parts. He had absolutely zero to do with the Charvels that we knew and loved back in the day...

You miss the wink and smile somehow, me brother? :) All my comments are in the interest of sharing knowledge, of course...

I still think the most interesting thing is the Charvel logo thing you brought up. Not many people realize that it was Grover and not Wayne who is responsible for the Charvels we love...

Steve

When Grover built Randy the first neck through guitar he put Jackson on the headstock in case it was a flop so as not to tarnish the Charvel brand name he had done so well to establish.

This is a great thread and shows what Rig Talk is still capable of, in a good week. And anyone else notice how populated this thread is by 1st generation RT'ers? It's good to see you guys back and active!

The original posting of this line complete with the F bomb was one of the funniest, most over the top posts in the history of any forum I have ever been on. It was like a train crash combined with the funniest thing I have ever read.

And now it is a RT tag line that will live forever!

Nothing to contribute.....except these 42mm brass blocks from KTS are the shiz and really woke up the Charvel.

i really like the look of that Charvel, it would be insane with a black headstock and gold logo, but killer as is.

I was thinking of trying one of these brass blocks at some point.

The sustain and harmonics went from average to "oh shit". The big blocks are definitely worth the little bit of coin they cost. I had to add two more springs though and run the claw most of the way in to level out the bridge.

Great thread! I remember Grover coming up with the Randy V guitar, and because it was so different and unlike all current Charvel models, Grover put a big "Jackson" on the headstock. The birth of Jackson neck thru guitars!

As Mr Keifer said -" don't know what you got till it's gone"!
