Hello Im new here and have a question for those of you who are familiar with maks mods.
Is marks mod differant from the Jose Arrendondo mod? Marks jose mod has to be the best sound Ive ever heard but all the other jose mods I hear dont sound good.

Hi,

WELCOME.

When Jose Died, the company that Mark Cameron worked for bought out Jose's shop, In it were schematics, and a lot of customers amps, some were completed, some were not.

A lot of these amps belonged to major artists, Like Mick Mars, and Warren DiMartini, etc, and were incomplete... Mark finished these so a lot of them were a blend of both Jose's and Marks ideas... Mark has never hid Jose's circuts, and had even pubished the Jose mod on the internet.

Mark has a lot of talent, and every designer has his own inturpatation of a circut, It also is a fact that Mark Voices each amp to taste, tailoring the sound to the particular amp... This is often why his mods take a long time.

But you are right, they really do sound awesome.

I love my splawn but I wouldnt have to think twice about giving it up for a cameron amp.
My favorite clips Ive heard are psychodave's, his sound is just perfect. Im considering buying a 2204/03 and sending it to mike fortin or john suhr since mark doesnt mod anymore. If anyone has any other suggestions on good modders please do tell.

Mike Fortin does a great Jose mod...

+1

Check the clip in my sig for an example of one tone that the Fortin Cali Mod can do

Mark has two versions, the HG Jose and the LG Jose.

The LG Jose has gain levels that are very similar to a real-deal Jose Arredondo mod. The HG Jose has more gain.

...and some amps have both the low and high gain versions. :D

Exactly! Either of the Cameron HG and LG mods will cop the 'Jose' style tone no problem :) Killer amps!

The Fortin 'Cali Mod' can go higher gain than Mark's Jose mods if you dial it in for that kinda thing. But it's also capable of doing anything from classic lower gain crunch to all out high gain, so the all there in just one single mod

Either the Fortin or the Cameron stuff will do 'Jose' style tone with ease. I found myself diggin the Fortin more after owning both, it just suits me better for what i go for tonewise :)

A couple of questions about the cali mod
Is it as open as marks jose mod?
Does it have as much sustain as mark jose mod?
Does it have the harmonic richness of marks jose mod?

I can answer yes to the last 2 questions for sure. As far as it being as 'open' as Mark's Jose mod, yes it absolutely can be if you dial it in that way. If you want more compression you can add it in via the mini switches and the 2 Gain controls.

With the Cali Mod you have 3 mini switches on the front of the amp. One for each Gain pot and one thats a Saturation switch. Also Mike adds a Feel switch which is either wired as a push pull on one of the Gain pots or its on the back panel via mini switch.

With the many different combinations of the way you can set each of those switches, you can cop a LOT of different tones. Its the most versatile Marshall mod IMO

Cant wait to get mine. Should be here towards the end of the week.

Yep, comes with the switches as standard feature :)

now what is the hulk mod. Is it just a differant voicing or does it also have differant features.

Completely different mod altogether and nothing like a Jose style amp. Send Mike Fortin a PM or email and he'll explain further about the Hulk :)

Anyone know why mike doesnt mod marshall reissues.

99.99% sure he has and will mod a reissue, unless he's too busy with his own amps to do mods.

The only thing i know that he said he wouldn't mod is the SLP Reissue, with the Hulk Mod, because it's too tight for space inside.

Cali Mods are fine in the Reissue Marshalls
