Is Mesa Boogie's DC series underrated?

I seem to have been hearing a good number of clips and vids of them...are they a secret high gain monster often over looked by other newer mesa amp series such as the marks and rectifiers?

Tell me more about them...the DC-3/5/10

I'd like to hear more experiences too.

I played a DC-10 2x12 combo in Cinci, and it fuckin' KILLED.

It was like the smoothness of a Mark and the grind of an old recto.

I would like one, but I want to make sure I didn't imagine this.

Very underrated amps. I'm a big fan of the DC series. The poor mans Mark series.

The DC-10 is no joke, great budget 100 watter IMO And you can find them pretty cheap.

I had a DC-5 combo way back when they first came out, my first Boogie product, and that was a rockin ass amp, extremely versatile, clean to metal and everything in-between, I would say it falls in the middle from Mark-Recto, but closer to Rec(IMO), MONSTER little combo, most guys with 4x12s had a hard time keeping up! Do yourself a favor and buy one just to try it out, they are usually inexpensive, you will like!!

.50 Cal+ with the loop modded to series and a good eq is as close as you're gonna get.

You probably have a Triaxis, that'll get you there too.

Been my main amp since I bought it in 92 (DC 5 Combo). I tried many others over the years but it is just so versitile I kept going back. Great gigging amp. The clean channel takes any OD you put in front nicely. Do the fx loop mod (very easy. Makes it series) and yer good to go!

Couldn't get rid of my DC-5 fast enough

Same here. I even tried a second one because I thought I may have missed something. Nope. Didn't do anything for me. But I had a MKIV that I hated also.

Former DC5 head owner. Extremely underrated. Great cleans. With the GEQ tone sculpting is no problem. The lead ch has more gain and is tighter(in response) and alot smoother than a mark. Theyre not as middy as the marks either and for that they dont seem to cut as well as a mark does in a band mix.

My DC-5 was load as fuck (as all mesas are).

One other thing about the DC's....Like all mesa they are funny to tweak. If you though the Marks were weird wait til you start twistin on a DC.
Start with bass mid and treb maxed at 10 and cut out what you dont need. I know it sounds fucked up. But if you start at noon and cut, the amp will be lifeless.

Hi!
This is an old thread but in case you're still active on rig-talk: you mention the fx loop mod. I tried to follow an instruction for a dc-5 fx loop mod (I attach a file that shows this mod). I tried it, and something went wrong. I see altso that the fx-loop of the dc-5 and the dc-2 is wired differently. What's the trick to make it work on the dc-2?

Very good amps IMO, at least the dc-5 I had was. More recto than mark. It’s the type of amp that goes from being at 10 in tone when dialing it in to an 11 in tone when you start to play. The only reason I bought it was because it was cheap, $300 on craigslist. I ended up selling it for $625.00 on eBay because I have too many amps and didn’t like it as much as my Mark III. There is one for sale in Philadelphia https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/msg ... 66863.html

As much Recto in the sense that it would *need* a boost to get the drive channel tight, or is that not necessary?

A DC-5 intrigues me; I like the 24" head width, 2 channels and the Mark's clean is pretty much the best to have IMO.

Fck I sure missed guitarslinger's old avatar from back in the day, thanks for the bump.
