I will be the dissenting vote and say no. Les Paul's rule SGs in every way. Carry on.

I would agree with you if LP's were consistently good. But man you have to go through a bunch to get the godly one. That's why I've totally given up on buying new American made Gibson LPs. Used ones that I know the history of and the player that have played them or the Asian knock offs (I say that in a good way) such as Burny , Orville, Edwards, ect... are the only ones I would buy. It seems that SGs are pretty consistent at least in my experience. And they seem to have a sound that I can always work with. But this is just my opinion and I am drunk.

I AM ALSO DRUNK... BURP! :D

FUCK NO!

I LOVE MY SG though... :D

it was my second electric... FOND memories of learning all the essential riffs on that FIREBRAND candy apple red SG...

I waited 30!? years to buy my second... GLAD I did!

09 Standard, black, JB bridge, Alnico 2 neck... Fkkn brilliant!

SUPER comfortable couch guitar...

ALL access neck for blues riffin, with a great sweet spot for my right arm to slide into...

Super light, paly all day...

great resonance, like my LP, not as DEEP, but just as long sustain and spanky!

Fine... GREAT GUITAR!!

Burp... Get's up to grab it off the wall....

the most neck dive prone guitar ever =0 , have one from the 80s, killer guitars tho

The perfect guitar is the one that has the winning Power Ball mega lotto ticket in the case from when you stopped at Quick Trip for a burrito and gas on he way home.

I like my old SG. First guitar was a Sears SG. First real guitar was a 76 SG Deluxe. Played a P90 SG that was sweet.

Never owned an SG until about two years ago. Great axe, definitely great to have in the arsenal, but I wouldn't have put off any of my LP purchases for it...

+1 The tones are awesome and the necks feel great but it's one of the worst egonomically designed guitars every. Les Paul hated it too and I see why.

No neck dive on mine at all :D I use a leather strap with that rough, suede-like stuff on the bottom and it seems to "grab" into my shoulder and keep it in place. Plus, no grovers so no added weight to the headstock. For me, the SG trumps the LP in terms of fret access, weight and comfort...

+2 that is why I sold mine, too neck heavy. It played great too. I tried wider straps, leather straps, counterweights, no dice. Mine was a Iommi signature with 24 frets, so I am sure that didn't help.

And my vote for the best guitar ever is a Gibson es335. Has both the st and les Paul beat. I wish I owned one. :(

I hear this a lot, but none of my three dive. Maybe you need a wider strap? BTW, mine are every bit as good as my 2 Les Pauls. I don't know about better though.

Is the Gibson SG the perfect guitar??

....not even close! :bleh:

My G&L Invader is perhaps the best guitar I've ever played. I used to have serious gas for an SG standard but they feel like toys to me now. All the newer ones I've played seem to have a plastic feel to them. I had a Viper I really liked though.

guitars are subjective....i hate sg's....but many folks love 'em..no right or wrong....i like strats

Never cared for the looks or the feel of the SG. It's a personal taste thing, of course, but they always felt clunky to me.

Nope. One of my least favorite humbucking guitars. A les paul or even a PRS sc or cu is a much better guitar in all ways.
