Is the Stiletto more of a stock Marshall Plexi/800 amp or a modded Marshall?

I would avoid the Stage 1. The stage II radically improved CH2 to where Fluid drive actually is a great, no pedals needed, high gain sound. Stage 1’s ch2 is spongier and not tight for the low strings in the higher gain voicings. Now if you don’t care about the high gain and like pedals, the stage I is fine for clean and crunch and the crunch setting takes pedals really well. The EQ evens out as you turn the amp up. At low volumes don’t be surprised to have the treble and presence very low. An EQ in the loop can do wonders for adjusting fullness at different volumes.

I can’t believe some people are saying they don’t sound like Marshall’s at all?? Not sure how they are dialing them in.

I had a stiletto years ago and loved it . Until I saw this post I forgot I had owned one !LoL!

I just picked one up last night. I'll post about my NAD in another thread.

This is my second Stiletto. My first was a Stage II Trident and it ripped. It is definitely Mesa's take on a Marshall flavor. I liked that it did Marshall through V30s, where as most Marshall's don't get along with V30s. I guess that makes it more like a brighter Matamp/Orange than a Marshall.

This Stiletto I just picked up is a first gen Deuce. I definitely notice the difference between the first gen and the Stage II. The low end isn't the same as it was on my last Stiletto. Either way, it's definitely a unique take on the "British" sound.

What's the difference in low end between the the 2 amps . I had a stage 1 ?

It's boosted in the Stage II, leading to a tighter bass response and more low end. I feel like that amp was more balanced than the first gen because of that. Lacking in the low end leads to the amp seeming too bright.

I have had a Stage 1 Deuce.
The channel two is definitely a Modded Marshall and worth the amp, but I am a two channel guy and the first channel was too bright to handle for me.
Maybe a Eq in the loop would tame it.

I'm having the opposite problem. I can't seem to get the clean channel bright enough. What speakers are you using?

I had the Compact Mesa 2x12 with V30 and a 3/4 Mesa 2x12 with Black Shadow at the time.
The amp sounded bright and harsh in both of them.

I picked up a Stage I Deuce recently. Struggled to dial in Channel 2 initially, but the turning point for me was switching to Diode rectification, turning on the loop (even though nothing was running through it) and bringing the loop output up so the dial marker is roughly pointing at the “+” sign. That brought the output dial on the front panel into play as a master volume, so I could run the channel volume at 2pm and control the overall amp volume with the output control. Then it’s Bold on Fluid Drive plus a Maxon OD808X in the front for Channel 2 and Spongey on Channel 1, with rest of the settings as pictured, running into a ported Zilla cab and Greenback G12H 55. At home levels it sounded good to me.
