Is there anything better than a Charvel?

I generally don't like stirring the pot, but I really haven't played anything that comes close to the price point and feel of those guitars. I recently played an assortment of high end guitars at NAMM and nothing really makes me as happy as having a nice SD in my hands. Its like I'm trying to find something better because I just don't want to accept the fact that they're the best!

I own zero Charvels. I don't mind paying a little more on the used market for an Anderson, Suhr, or if i can find it a good LP.

They're nice guitars for the dough but even the custom shop Charvels that I've played haven't been up to the Anderson/Suhr standard.

I know a lot of guys swear by the Suhr stuff but every guitar I've played from several different shops never felt right to me. I haven't played Anderson yet so I have no opinion on them. The Mesa Boogie shop in Orange County has some so I'm gonna try them out at some point.

The very first time I picked up a Charvel was at Curt's shop from his personal stash and I was hooked. I've played almost every guitar you can think of and nothing has been able to top it. And each time I play an SD it just feels great!

"Except for an Anderson" :D

Any PRS is better. Cooler? No. But made better, play better, sound better.

I owned a few charvels and im glad i dont have them anymore to be honest, i dont miss them.

Anderson > Charvel

anyday of the week. and yes i have played one. best damn guitar to cross my hands ever - and i own ESP's and Ibanez's as well. smokes them too.

smokes MIM fenders, and smokes my MIJ 1988 Charvel as well - no contest.

guy was playing a PRS next to me when i was on the Anderson, smokes the hell out of it as well.

no contest the best guitars made and i do mean ever.

about the only guitar i think that could come close to it are ernie ball axis guitars and the new wolfgangs

Is there anything better than a greased up, portly, hermaphrodytic midget pissed on shooters for some Friday night fun??

Exactly.

To each their own :D

Great guitars, but the look really isn't for everone. The generation that I think alot of the members of this board belong to are heavily influenced and inspired by the 80s heavy rock/metal guitarrists, specifically EVH, Garry Moore, Gilbert, etc.

The taste in tone and appearence for guitars kinda goes along with that I think. But my generation, not so much. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a black or purple (I'd love a purple) San Dimas or SoCal..

..That is, if it had a rosewood/ebony fretboard, less rounded bevels (more like an ibanez), 24 frets, etc etc. That's the generational gap. My ideal guitar looks more like an ESP Horizon, whereas I think if I were 30 years older it'd be a red San Dimas with a lovely blonde fretboard.

I have several Charvels, and while I would not say they are the best guitars out there, they do have a certain familiarity that I enjoy. You can just pick them up and they "fit".

charvels, charvel/jackson, or present-day fender/charvel?

I think Charvels definitely have a "cool factor" about them, especially when you take their prices into account. But, there are many other guitars I'd rather own: Musicman, Anderson, Suhr, Rasmus, Carvin (all new or used over a Charvel.) I don't like the old-school neck heel on them at all and they really don't come off as having much personality (or mojo) to me compared to other brands.

For me it is isn't about how cool they look. Certainly Suhr, Anderson, and PRS have that and are spectacular to gaze at. I just care more on feel and tone. The newer Charvels just have that comfortable feel to which spurs on simple inspiration. I know this whole topic is subjective as everything in music can be. The quandary of this unfortunate predicament which I now see myself in has led me to ask the question.

I am open to knocking them off the absolute status. I don't like having that end-all-be-all for gear as I just had that a couple weeks ago with an amp that "will be mine" someday. I really wanna try Anderson as I'm very intrigued about there electronics, and just continue to look.
