Is there anything better than a Charvel?

That white relic one looks awesome! Did you have that done or is that how you bought it?

I did it myself. It's just a "crappy" old USA Production that is barely fit to be called a guitar. It couldn't possibly sound good or be able to have anything cool played on it.

PS. It's my favorite guitar, but what do I know? I'm not sure if I ever posted this video before: :hys: (come on, I'm trying to get my views over 50k ;) )

Your analogy worked for me when applied to Suhr, but not Anderson. For me at least.

+1

i wouldnt care if the anderson i played was a POS looking studio drag whore. not only did the guitar provide tonally, but also looks as well. its a double win.

says alot for the company and the guitars. the guy asked if there was anything better than a charvel and Anderson is being mentioned in this topic for a reason.

i own a MIJ charvel, but never could play a USA charvel i liked, no matter the batch. just another guitar to me - didnt really feel like anything special and the tone it was delivering was not something that makes you go "wow damn this sounds good!" nor was it something a simple pickup change would do.

glad others are liking charvels as other people seem to mention. had i not experienced an Anderson guitar myself, i wouldnt be saying this. i would have never thought in my wildest dreams i would actually think suhr's/anderson's really stood all that much higher against the guitars i already own and was pretty skeptical against them and thought the people who owned them had more money then common sense.

had the chance to put one in my hands, and no shit did it not sound so good the original seller contacted me through RT to get it back, and store workers who didnt even play guitar complimented on the tone and giving fist pumps.

that says alot for the guitar. never, not once, did i ever feel that way with a charvel that i played in any store at any point in time. i only own the one i own now for a beater guitar to shred frets on and practice, not really for the tonal applications.

Do you run across a lot of USA Charvel custom shops there in NC? Played a lot of the original Charvels from the 80's? I've played lots of Andersons..... awesome guitars, no doubt. Don't want one though. Maybe after my golf swing gets better and I buy a car with an automatic. :D

Ralph is another guy on Rig Talk that can vouch for the Charvels while also owning an Anderson and an original Charvel. And Ralph is a freaking monster but he doesn't hang here much anymore.

No disprespect intended at all, but an '88 MIJ Charvel may be cool in it's own right, but by that time Charvel had completely forgotten what their name even meant or had ever meant. They were totally lost. Here's when Charvels mattered 1979-1986 (Wayne left in 1978), a brief period in the mid 90's where they made some great guitars with the Charvel name on them. They weren't really anything like an original Charvel but they were quality guitars and then 2005-present.

USA custom shop charvels? i have played a USA custom shop jackson with an ebony board that (to me) sounded better than the 2005+ mentioned charvels being mentioned. i have only played about 5 models of the charvels, didnt find anything that stood out in any of them at all. but the custom shop jackson still does not hold a candle to Andersons imho. id love to play a custom shop charvel that you mention though, could possibly sway me better on the whole charvel ordeal im not a hater of any brands, i just like quality guitars that play and sound great.

compared to the 2005+ charvels, the anderson's are a one up to me - and rightfully so for the price it costs to get one. glad you love them as much as you do - but for me they dont hold a candle. the OP asked "is there anything better than a charvel" and i say Andersons - no reason to defend it.

i would like to play a real custom shop charvel or a real 80's charvel though Curt - dont get me wrong. one that everyone mentions sounds so great and delivers the mojo - i would love to. but having played a good few batches of 2005+ models i just dont see what they have to deliver - especially when a custom shop jackson does not deliver the goods to come close. sounds harsh, but when a guitar delivers and delivers hard, then the bar's are raised to equal it in quality, tone, and playability. maybe i got lucky and played that one Anderson that sounds better than others, but it is the only guitar in the 13 years of my playing that literally left me shocked and amazed, not the wow factor, but in the fact it actually delivered the goods that well. nothing was wrong with it. tonally, sonically, looks, etc.

my charvel is a piece of shit compared to any guitar. its just a guitar shaped object that i can practice on without worrying about refretting a guitar that actually matters. not comparing aformentioned charvels to this guitar at all - strictly the 2005+ models i have played.

i like 80's kramers a whole bunch
and the old USA charvels are sweet.

I am a sucker for ESP's and Old jackson neck throughs too

Now there's a man whose recommendation I would take into consideration. That demo is badass.

I have no use for opinions regarding gear tone or performance from people who can't play.

To each his own. Sure, there are better guitars than a Charvel. Depends on the guitar, the player and style.

Are you implying that some opinions in this thread have been said by those who can't play? Just asking.

Suhrs and Andersons come and go, although of those two, I prefer Andersons. Suhrs are too stiff for me for some reason, but still own a few of those too. But a nice Custom shop or old Charvel? Unreal.

The best gutar I have ever played, as far as a bolt on, is my Tyler. Its not even close. But otherwise, Its Charvels for me...

I really wish Charvel made a 24 fret model. I would be all over that!
