Mothers Day Friday!... if you still got yours, hug her neck and thank her for bringing your ass into the world! If not, go to where she rests and pay respects.
That said, by an odd set of how things work in this world, i got an invite to "come jam" with some bluegrass folks! yea...i know... so i've been listening to BG this week... sounds hard, but the jam sessions sounds like fun (lack of time, aside from some skillset shortfall, makes this difficult).
So here on this rather hardened group, i spin for you: (I don't know if this is "authentic" BG, but it's what i'm rolling with)
Of course there's always this:
Good fucking luck man I’ve been around bluegrass my whole life and I wouldn’t dare stick my nose in a session. There are a lot of players around here. Any nice weekend day there will be a gaggle around the old courthouse in town and there’s just nothing they can’t play with seemingly little effort. Old men with knobby finger joints somehow with way more dexterity than me just blazing away on those nonstop rolling reels and jigs.
I have however been playing a lot of acoustic lately since I picked up a new one I’m super happy with, so I’ve also been on that country and bluegrass kick. Doing some chores right now letting Cuttin’ Grass play through.
Yeah playing that kind of stuff is a different world, not just from a skill standpoint but these guys develop an encyclopedic knowledge of this catalog of folk tunes over time that I’m positive I’d be lost in. It all makes it look very intimidating from the outside. But hell he sounds like a nice guy, maybe it’ll be fun.ain't it the damn truth... as you say blazing away... flat picking the shit out some acoustic instrument. super nice older guy (owns a small shop, small town) that asked me to swing by..."we jam ery' other wednesday...kick off about 8...swing on by and play with us". yea...i don't know dude, i may need to go the butcher and get me some chops first.. he laughed.
the grass-cutting Sturgill tune is a nice'n btw.
I’m been really digging Diver Down .Hang en High has so many cool little changesLove Hang Em High!
I always thought one of my favorite Plini solos was in this song (I'll time stamp the solo). Then one day I read the liner notes...Stephen Taranto.Dude . I bought the tab book from him and been playing the duck out of track 2 . Man this is guitar heaven . Fuck yes
