I've been interested in these pickups since they were released, after looking around at all the PAF offerings out there including vintage Duncans in this Ohm resistance range I just finally said fook it and ordered the Steckel bridge from the Custom Shop today. I just love the clarity and grind to it.

Apparently his 1960 Les Paul had the AlNico III magnets in them with the neck resistance of 7.55K ohms and 7.68K for the bridge.

The Steckel Signature Humbuckers are spot-on recreations of the Alnico III humbuckers found in “Candy,” the 1960 Les Paul behind Steckel’s signature Knaggs guitar. From boasting the exact pickup readings to matching relic’ing—by Knaggs Guitars’ own Joe Knaggs and Lukas Fronzoli—every detail of the originals are represented. The “Candy” Humbucker Set is also available in a variety of options, including single or 4-conductor wiring, covered or uncovered, aged or unaged, and more. So no matter what look you’re after, you’ll enjoy the same level of nuanced response that inspires Steckel every time he picks up his guitar.

I have a Knaggs that came with the Candy set. They sound nice, but are really hard to control. With any kind of gain they really like to squeal.

I'm assuming with those specs that the Candy pickups are low output but fairly well balanced.

What guitar are you planning to install it in?

Guess we aren't going to hear any clean tones from the blues prodigy.

There was an option to have the pickup wax potted on the order form and I selected mine to be wax potted. I am surprised Knaggs didn't have them wax potted as a standard issue since Mr Steckel plays with tons of gain. through those Mezzabarba amps.

I also asked them to err on the side of overwinding the 7.68K spec.

They appear to be from what I hear in the video clips.:2thumbsup: I won't know until I play it in my guitar but I like what I hear in the Knaggs.

I'll bet that Candy pickup will sing in that guitar. Can you post a clip after you get it installed?
We'll see.... It's been a while since I posted any clips. I will report what it sounds like good or bad at the very least.

I like what I hear in the Steckel clips, Since I love my Duncan 78 PAF I figured Seymour's take on an exact reproduction of Steckel's 1960 LP PAF would be spot on as well. I was going to try Jalen Super Classics but decided to go the Duncan route.

Hopefully MJ winds my Candy pickup, she has built two of my custom shop Duncans in two of my guitars.:2thumbsup:

MJ made me a 78 over 20 years ago. I wish I still had that thing. Incredible pickup.
