He may not be the best musician and there might be some people that don't like him but they sure are creative as fuck!

Hmmm post your chops and singing, I'll compare the two and let ya know.

Nice try, but I'm not the one going around acting like a rockstar and holding concerts. I post my clips all the time by the way goof. I don't claim to be a great player, but I don't suck, so here are a few to satisfy your curiosity.

Man love that Elmwood tone, great stuff. Pity they went out of business... Nice playing too!

Maybe it was my mistake because I thought the dude was doing it as a musician. He's even been featured as a talented guitar player and musicians in a couple of magazines. After hearing about it, I gave a listen to a couple of his tunes, but it was pretty bland and he overdoes it on his vocals. If it's part of a comedy routine then I can understand, but if he's trying to stage like a serious musician then I don't know who would actually fork over money for his music. Well, actually I was being kind of a dick because last time I heard Jack Black speak he was on some far left rant which irritated me.

So just some petty bullshit then? Welcome to Hollywood.

If you check out the original Tenacious D show the main premise is that they do suck, yet think they are the shit. Check out The Pick of Destiny, I think its on netflix.

All hail the D!

The songs on their CD that has Wonderboy and Fuck Her Gently is full of great singing and musical chops. Plus it's often quite hilarious. It's cool if you don't like him though. He got way too saturated in the media for a while. I dig him in his Neil Diamond tribute trio in saving Silverman.

I wish I could sing half as good as Jables
Right???

I actually hate the studio full band recordings (prefer just Jack and Kyle) but have been a fan of "The D" for about 20 years now! LOL! They were doing comedy for some time before getting"known" thanks to Mr. Show with Bob and Dave which is where I first saw JB and The D.

I find him entertaining. He is over done but so was Chris Farley and it worked for me. The pick of destiny is a genius movie and the song writing though comedic, is very good. Love the final battle scene with the devil. How can you not think that is well done ? The live shows seem silly but hey, we all go see steel panther and they are also a joke who are running out of musical ideas.

He's like nearly all entertainers are with me, love some of it, can pass on some. I thought this cover version with Fallon of "More Than Words" was at least on par with the original. He also paired with Cee Lo Green for a bluesy cool version of "Kung Fu Fighting." I agree with above (Kapo Polenton) there are plenty of acts that others dig and some of us think "Huh? Okay then", feel the same way about SP too for example, don't get it at all, but they're having fun, so are their fans so I can't hate on it. JB is the same thing, at least we know going in he's doing it in at least partial jest.

holy edit, can't remember how to post vids here lol

He was funny in "loving Fat chicks"

Or what ever it was called. Got a few chuckles.

You have not lived until you've heard the D play the Land of the Lost theme! I can't find that right now so instead here's sonic death monkey or whatever they're calling themselves now...

Yeah, what a damned shame that Elmwood isn't around anymore. I sold my stinger with the intention of getting that amp they came out with right before going out of business. I think it was called the M20 or something. Every now and then I keep an eye out for a sick deal on a Modena or something, but guys are asking way too much for them these days.

I'll admit Jack Black was funny as hell in School of Rock and Nacho Libre. Chris Farley was hilarious too. When he died is about when Saturday Night Live went to shit. I've never seen Steel Panther before, but I've seen several of their videos.

I can't see how anyone can listen to that dude sing. Those Hollywood douchebags suck.

I remember back in the 80's the same was said about all the LA glam & hair metal bands among my circle of friends...

That was the case for most of them, and still is, but at least in comparison to popular rap and pop music these days, their skills can be greatly appreciated.

True that brother!

I'm not knocking him for doing what he does. I just don't understand how anyone can listen to him. He's already obnoxious in movies, but at least he's funny. The thing is that his vocals are grating on the ears, and his covers aren't any good. Despite that, for some reason, there're apparently a lot of people who go to his concerts and even buy his CD's. Certainly there are far more deserving musicians, but of course he takes advantage of his celebrity status to cash in on his banal music. The dude just really annoys me, sorry.

It's because music is as subjective as ones taste in food or cars and there's no right or wrong since it's all personal preference.

It's fine to have opinions but musicians we should strive to be open minded and not judge just because something is different than what we like. Where we can't, then just ignore.
